For the people who removed the WP screw and it still says WP is enabled, make sure to totally remove the mesh around where the screw was. I had this happen to me so I reopened the laptop and scraped off that sticky mesh and it worked after that

funny thing is i attempted this almost 7 years ago with a chromebook i had. i was only 8 and when i got to the part were i uninstalled chrome os i thought i broke my chromebook. turns out all i needed to do was plug in a usb with windows on it and boot it up from the boot manager and it would have worked

If ctrl-D doesn't do anything for you, or it gets stuck on an OS verification or recovery screen, create a USB recovery drive using the Chromebook Recovery Tool extension to reinstall ChromeOS, then try it again. That worked for my Dell 3180, at least

For anyone who gets the error he said read the Page this happened because of a change in ChromeOS REALLY READ THIS: Under ChromeOS, starting with R117, this script must be run from a VT2 terminal (from login screen: CTRL+ALT+F2, login 'chronos'); it cannot be run from a crosh shell (CTRL+ALT+T when logged in) due to the removal of sudo, or from a crostini (penguin) terminal; crostini is a virtualized container and lacks the necessary access to read or modify the firmware. This should fix the error As this did in fact work The F2 key is the -> Arrow in the keyboard To get out the VT2 terminal You have to do the same keyboard shortcut as you used to enter but this time instead of pressing F2 you have to press F1 which is the

I'm thinking about doing this with an Asus Chromebook 2 which is no longer supported by Google but is a good machine still. To me it looks like a complex process and I am not confident to work at this level. But I know a man who can ;-) Your presentation looks like an excellent guide for him and could save me buying a new PC while not wasting good older hardware. Great instructions. I just installed Win_11 on a newer Lenovo 11th gen w/8gb and it works great (paid $45 for the unit on eBay just for this). The problem I ran into was disabling the write-protect now that the ChromeOS update gives you a "The "no new privileges" flag is set, which prevents sudo from running as root" message.

It explains how to get around this very thing which is to put the curl script into VT2 which is ctrl + alt + F2(forward arrow).. to get out of it just use the back arrow or F1

So many issues here as follows: For my Asus CM5500F, you cannot put into developer mode if youve unhooked the battery to defeat the write-protect chip. You need get into dev mode first then unhook the battery. Then opening a cmd window via the ctrl alt T doesn't permit the shell command. It asked me to flip to another version using cntrl alt F2 refresh right arrow. However before i can enter the shell cmd it asks for a dev login and password.....and i'm dead in the water. What a waste of 2 hours....

ctrl+alt+→/f2, root for username and password. type the following command; chromeos-setdevpasswd it will ask for a password; set it as what you'd like the chronos password to be. log out and back in on the shell menu with "chronos" and your custom password, and it should work! I'm open to answer more questions if needed, but the chultrabook forums are also a good place for more experienced advice ^^

i got stuck but then i seen the list of commands and found a answer, when you get in that v2 menu, for the login as 'root' and the default password is 'test0000' (no quotations) after you do that type 'chromeos-setdevpasswd' and create a password for the user login 'chronos' Once that's done when you enter a shell you'll be prompted for the 'chronos' password each time but you can then use 'sudo -i' or any other bash shell commands

I'm struggling with one part during the install, when I click "Custom install" then try to delete the disk 0 partitions I get an error: "We couldn't delete the selected partition. Thank you! Your video was the only good ressource I could find for the whole process of how to get Windows on my kid's HP Careena Chromebook. I had to power it on with the battery unplugged, in order to disable hardware write protection, and then disable software write protection from within ChromeOS, before I could proceed, but thankfully the paid audio driver had since been made free.

With the battery disconnect I am able to power on my Galaxy Chromebook but I cannot enable or disable OS verification, it starts to boot the device into developer mode but powers off. Did I miss a step? Or should I connect the battery back after Disconnecting it?

Hello Brandon Yen. It asks me for a password when i'm doing the cmd tab stuff when in developer mode. This is only after I enter the last command and the one before it. Also, question; is it reversable any point before the cmd or at the cmd when u get that 'menu' made in the cmd tab created. Also, question again; do we have to follow that process, or if we magically find a way to get it to boot off of the usb or portable drive with windows then does it do the same?
