@AmirLoewe Probably your Windows is a little corrupted. The installer could not find some necessary files for update. Try reinstall a fresh Windows and then install SP3.

mine comes up with and error half way through, it doesnt say anything about the erroe other than it is unexpected and that it needs to restore the files.

@anu537 You can make a restore point to be sure you will not corrupt your Windows installation. But, if you have a removable disk, such as an external hard drive, you can copy your files there and then install the update.

@anu537 Well, you can make a full back-up of your Windows. Or a restore point. Then install SP3. If something goes wrong, you can restore your Windows to an earlier time, of course, if you have a restore point.

How would i reinstall windows xp home edition, sp3, when the sp3 install i just had on it is corrupt? I tried to use my sp2 disc to reinstall windows xp home, thinking i could just put the updates in for sp3, but for some reason, my windows install gets stuck, gives me a blue screen of death, and then resets and does it all over again. Please help!

If you will download the file for SP3 you can store it on your computer and then copy the file on another computer or an external storage medium and copy it onto another computer and install SP3 there. On Microsoft website they recommend you to turn on Windows Update and to let it automatically download updates and to automatically install them. But to install Service Pack 3 by following this video is safe and after the installation process you will have Windows XP SP3.
