Installation & Exploration: Windows 95, July 20 1992 build

A build of Windows Chicago/95 before 58s was recently found, and it actually predates 58s by over a YEAR! Also, it can still run in standard mode/on a 286, since it completely lacks any Win32 support!

Whoa! I initially thought this was fake like with some of the images I had seen of ‘Cougar’ builds (which I think were fake), but by the looks of it, what you showed was a real build, but the UX team were likely still doing research work and hadn't yet got to work putting in their code. Even then, I could see early bits of stuff like a new graphics stack, new fonts and font rendering (likely DirectDraw), and some of the utilities that would eventually make it to build 950 (Windows 95 RTM).

Fun Fact: The low memory error and the bsod dont appear when upgrading from windows 3.1, so the bsod is not because its not running on cougar but for some reason when exiting the item manager a low memory error appears

Nope, 386 enchanced mode for Windows 3.x was not true 32-bit. In fact this build is so early that there's no Win32 support at all for 32-bit applications. If you want to read more about what 386 enhanced mode was: devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/20100517-00/?p=14013
