Over the last few years, I've called Ron to ask simple questions several times. He always made himself accessible. My questions became rich discussions. He is a goodwill ambassador for the APG, and even fostered the idea of supporting my application to them. Ron is the most gracious big name pitolsmith I've ever talked with, and I've met most of them.

I would not place a dislike on this video, as it's extremely informative and very well produced. No out-of-focus-or-frame. Id' always wondered how the experts put this detente in a frame - and now i know. Thank you Sir. The worrying bit was when he placed the frame on top of the crane and viced the crane without protection. I was there fore pleasantly surprised when he DID protect the frame. I would expect my gun to come back repaired - but with scratches and dings.

If I put a Python barrel on my 586, would the crane ball be enough or would it still need the factory plunger? I'll be buying one or two of those kits for sure.

Great video. Would I be able to send you some of my revolvers to have this ball detent installed? If so please leave contact information. Thank you

How does the ball not pop out with the spring pressure, and if it’s not free moving then how does the ball get compressed?
@thisisyourcaptin6 жыл бұрын
Wat at 5:11. This where they stake the ball in place. The tool pushes the ball below the surface of the arm. When they strike the tool it deforms the metal ever so slightly. This keeps the ball from popping out but allows it to still push down freely.

But is it also locking at the tip of the ejector rod too, or he took that out ?
@thegman24844 жыл бұрын
The ejector rod is still supported by the ejector rod lock and spring; no parts are removed. It is a modern version of the famed S&W Triple Lock with the 3rd lock replaced by the ball and detent.

I haven't had any issue with my 686, is this more for competition shooting or something?

interesting. my dad shot PPC in the 80s and I grew up shooting his Bill Davis custom mod10. I believe that gun had this modification. one of the smoothest revolvers I have ever handled or fired.

Easy to do for the master but the fools must have ruined many sidearms. Held my breath watching you work the magic. Have a 66-8 with 2.75 barrel and the system on that is quite different. From what I've seen also another method is used on the 4.25 inch barreled guns. The square on ratchets and extension bar hand tools also use ball detent retention to hold sockets, hence where the Snap on Tools Company derived their name in 1920.

Glad that wasn't my gun cause he straight fucked the frame up with that die grinder. Hell I knew he was stupid when he told where to place the grind. Trial and err my ass, what the hell ya think the dicum was for. smh...
