Installation Tips for Schluter®-DITRA

Does one run the Ditra to the wall or should there be a space? Is it a modified or unmodified thin-set between Ditra and wood flooring?

Hey, There should be a space or a Schluter®-DILEX corner movement profile. Either way, the space should not be filled with thin-set or grout, so it is best to use the BEKOTEC-BRS/-BRSK edge strip or sill seal compressible gasket or similar to fill it, in the absence of a movement joint. Use modified thin-set to bond the DITRA membrane to the plywood or OSB subfloor. See the movement joint section and applicable detail in the Schluter-DITRA Installation Handbook for complete details. QUESTION ? Can I use the same mortar to stick the coupling membrane down onto my concrete flooring to also place tiles on top ?

Hi there! Your concrete must first be even and free of bond breakers. PRIMER-U can be used over hard-to-bond-to substrates. Then you can use our ALL-SET thin-set or an unmodified thin-set to install the DITRA membrane and then install your tiles on top of it. Hope that helps!

What about the saddle. No videos review how to cut for the door saddle. I am going to use a marlbe saddle. how far out to I go? what are the standard cutting rules... Thank you in advance.

Hi there! There are a variety of styles and shapes of marble thresholds. How they are installed can very depending on the depth of the door frame, the dimensions of the threshold you choose, trim sizes, tile sizes, and desired appearance. Unfortunately, it's not something that can be easily standardized. Since this is more of a tile installation question and not a Schluter product installation question, we would recommend speaking with a tile or design professional, such as a contractor, dealer or designer or simply searching for reputable sources online to give you tips on layout and installation of your saddle/threshold. In the end, you want to line it up so that there is a nice balance between your tile, other flooring, door frame and trim. Hope this helps!
