The DMR shouldn't fire 7.62x51 NATO, same round as the AR, etc. I still love Halo but the UNSC weapons could do with more carefully thought out statistics.

@@markmulder9845 Suppressors have no use when the enemy has personal shields and also they'd have to build in a stealth mechanic. No grenade launchers is probably down to multplayer balance, the same with weapon variations. I think it'd be better if campaign and MP had entirely different damage models and "Balance" got thrown out the window entirely in campaign.

That'd be a pretty good idea tbh. Halo 3 had 4 different types of grenades, so I think Infinite could as well. Stuns that disorient the player's vision and audio for a few seconds used by the UNSC. There were stun grenades used by Hellbringers in Halo Wars so why not? And maybe replace the poopy Promethean grenade with some sort of Forerunner stasis/EMP grenade, that could slow down targets in it's AoE and EMP vehicles or something.

I mean we don't ever see civilian sector fire arms only military so everything is standard issue. There's really not that many rifles the current us military issues. Every once in a while somebody will show up with an m21 or spec ops with scars but mostly it's the nothing but m4 variants and one m240 per squad, then a sniper rifle for overwatch in an area.

Thor's Hammer They’re a little bit difficult to compare cause they both rely on different processes to inflict damage. UNSC’s primary anti ship weapon, the Magnetic Accelerator Cannon (MAC) relies on precise targeting and firing solutions and shear, overwhelming velocity giving it immense kinetic energy to do its damage. Orbital Defense Platform (ODP) “Super MAC’s” launch a 3,000 ton hyper-dense tungsten projectile at 4% of the speed of light! That’s almost 27 million miles per hour!!! Nothing, not even the most powerful covenant shields can withstand that so an ODP is essentially a one shot kill on anything the Covenant can throw at it. Oh and they have a reload time of less than 10 seconds 😳 These Super MAC’s are quite rare however and only fielded in numbers significant enough to turn the tide of any space battle around the most important UNSC worlds like Reach and Earth. They’re also quite vulnerable to boarding actions if not properly escorted as they lack sufficient point defense batteries, not maneuverable as they are In geosynchronous orbit above a planet, and totally dependent on their ground based generators for power that somehow transmit the ridiculous amounts of electricity needed to charge the capacitors of a weapon that big into space 🤷🏻‍♂️ Covenant Ship based plasma weaponry like energy projectors and plasma torpedoes leverage the unimaginably high temperatures generated by the plasma to literally boil away the titanium-A armor of UNSC warships. As these weapons are fielded on practically every covenant warship they are much more effective, hence the UNSC’s distinct disadvantage in nearly every space battle. UNSC ship based MAC’s are really only effective in great numbers in coordinated barrages as they shoot lighter projectiles at slower speeds than ODP’s and Archer anti-ship missile barrages usually do nothing more than piss covenant ships off, peppering their shields and being shot down left and right by covenant point defense pulse lasers. EDIT: The UNSC also has Shiva Class Nuclear missiles at their disposal. Shivas are usually ship based and have varying yields, def in the ten’s of megatons of TNT at least I would have to guess. If a Shiva can detonate close enough to a covenant capital ship, it’s a bad day for the covies. While it’s not a guaranteed kill, almost any covenant ship will have its shields stripped by a Shiva or two and then be vulnerable to attack. There’s also the NOVA bomb which is a prototype experimental nuclear device of unimaginable yield. It was once detonated above a covenant planet, vaporizing every enemy ship in orbit, scorching the near side of the planet, shattering the planet’s nearby moon, and rendering the planet uninhabitable. NOVA’s are called planet killers. Kinda limited in terms of space combat use as any detonation of a NOVA would almost certainly kill the UNSC ship that launched it.

The plasma grenade brings back good memories from Halo 3 and Reach. A good 30% of my kills were with the plasma grenade, and for some reason in Reach I always coincidentally stuck people in the groin. I believe a photo is still on my file share under "Blue Ballz" in Halo Reach somewhere.

I discovered this other sci fi series when going around the internet called Warframe and from the topics about it, the series seems to have similar technology levels that the Halo factions have. Anything below the Forerunners and Ancient Humanity atleast. Does anyone know about the series more about the weapons and the fleets of the Warframe factions and what kind of technological Tier would they be in Halo scaling? Heck the series has it's own version of the Flood that's instead a nano machine that assimilates flesh.

Warframe's pretty light on lore when it comes to the in depth mechanics on how ships, weapons etc Operate. I remember an argument on the forums on what kind of weapon the bolter was, I said it was gauss rifle due to the fire noise sounding electrical but many others argued that it is a pneumatic air rifle due to the bullet shape and speed.

I'll be honest, some bits of this video made me laugh, like the intro and conclusion and your description of suicide Grunts wanting to give the Chief a hug, whilst holding two lit plasma grenades. Just the casual way you describe the players desperate retreat from the crazed hordes of suicidal Grunts, it's just funny to me. Lord Note of Whiskey (great username as well) doing the intro, his voice and tone just worked so well with the script, I loved it. Also, don't you just hate it when you stick an Elite ultra or Brute chieftain with your last grenade, and they activate armour lockup or invincibility. The video itself, very interesting. I had wondered how the grenades stuck to a target but not a wall. Wouldn't a burning layer of plasma separate the grenade from the target, kind of like how an ablative heatshield separates a spacecraft from the reentry plasma by controlled burning of the shield. I guess it makes more sense than covering it in superglue :).

And in the short story, The Mona Lisa, the ONI scientist on the ship makes mention of how the Covenant species have a force evolution to make them resistant to beta radiation of their weapons.

Ok rail/coil gun… cool. now imagine this. A rail gun ,ie a electromagnetically accelerated projectile, that fires something that can track, is 6x more dense then earths heaviest natural element osmium, and is 3000 degrees Celsius, probably radioactive?, and so can melt through basically any material based armor plating at compatible scale. Oh wait that’s a covent plasma weapon. Oops. Seriously the density of our sun’s core plasma is 150 grams per centimeter cubed where as Osmium is 22 grams per cubic centimeter. All wile being magnetically manipulate-able like a metal. Now I could of based the possible plasma density of nutronium from white dwarfs but I believe that’s a separate state of matter. Also note in space warfare, realistically, overheating your opponent’s space craft is paramount. This is because the vacuum of space is a much worse conductor of heat then air so one can not as easily wait for heat to dissipate unlike hear on earth; essentially forcing your opponent to jettison their precious cargo/shed their shields or bake to death. So yeah heat damage is space is pretty Brocken. Think about a hydrogen fuel cell electric generator. Even though hydrogen is a gas it still stores more energy in its molecules then lithium ion battery’s. If you don’t believe me look up the tanks on a 300 mile electric and hydrogen car to compare the size. The battery for a EV is the entire bottom of the car where as the equivalent energy storage is about two medium sized tank. Note also hydrogen does not go bad as fuel and because it is a fuel, can be refueled instead of recharged which saves alot of time. Compare filling up your car with gas vs charging a EV even in “fast charge”, refueling is faster. Now dense plasma, like that found in Star cores (our sun being mostly hydrogen) can pack way more energy into a smaller space by essentially being ultra dense electrically and thermal charged hydrogen. With such density no wonder cov weapons can fire continuously for far longer without having to reload compared to human weapons density of 150 grams per cm3 plasma or hell some stars get 500 grams per cm3. Even better ,since every element known to man is just hydrogen fused together, these “plasma batteries” would double as ultra compact material storage. Imagine cramming titanium,gold, or any other needed elements down to the equivalent amount of 150-500 grams per cm3, then fusing the hydrogen into the needed elements to “unpack them”. Makes me wonder about cov manufacturing or if their projectile materials in cov weapons are made within the weapon itself (except the fuel rod which has a viable clip). So yeah I am a plasma Stan.

I do wonder what is it's power source? I don't see the practicality of a plasma botle over regular chemical explosive filler. The only way i see it working is if it is a casaba-style one-off micro-fusion mechanism to produce the plasma burst. A pressured plasma botle would be to weak ,similar to an aer tank explosion vs an equal weight of any regular explosive ordinance not having verosimility. And if they have the battery power density to vaporize the local area why not make an electrothermal shrapnel grenade or a magnetohidrodinamic grenade (a molten metal projecting railgun arrayed akin to a hedgehog-like the mahem warhead of the stilleto beam or thanix canon only in all directions ). If it is a shrapnel projector it would work in the void of space like in the aer of the atmosphere.
