@@skepticalmagos_101 because its not a main weapon usually. Nor would any sword be effective against such armor in halo. The plasma rifle is generally used and in melee combat or special uses weeks at a time before a short charge up isnt a big deal. The pods you see in the halo games are recharge stations etc which are portable and just amazing overall. They go out on a mission or so comeback and charge or whatever. It's not as if they become defenseless anyways these creatures can still fight and do major damage barehanded having enough strength to break titanium alloys..

Energy swords last much, MUCH longer in lore compared to in game. And with the retrofitted forunner and covie tech of modern UNSC it's not far fetched to think they can recharge it. Hell you would not exactly need that anyway, logically you'd need a sufficient power source and just, yank it to the battery.

So a few things The Fail-Safe feature is weird. There are no "Halo 2" books, so there is no in canon reason for why the Fail-Safe suddenly stopped existing, however it's considered by many to be retconned. The depletion of energy per sword swing is matter of factly a gameplay only feature, especially since plasma weapons battery are considered to be almost 100x greater, with things like plasma rifles being able to be fired all day without needing recharge immediately There was evidence that explains the Prophet's Bane was Thel's personal sword was the one that killed Truth. In the campaign you find out the Energy sword used by the "covenant" fighting the SoS no longer Cauterize the wound to ensure bleedout, implying it's more destructive that way

Maybe because they are serious people who care about combat effectiveness instead of personal glory? The Sangheili tactics are outdated. They work only if the other side is a similarly "honorable" group. They will work against other Sangheili in feudal wars and 1v1 duels, but not against an army that uses proper snipers, tanks and air/artillery support. These swords are like WWII Japanese banzai attacks, useful only as psychological weapons that will not work as long as the enemy has enough machine gun ammo.

It’s undoubtedly a matter of game balance, “real” energy swords wouldn’t drain that fast. BTW while we’re talking about mechanics, what’s stopping an elite or spartan from recharging the sword with their own armor? I’d imagine there’d be some way you could syphon power from the armor into the sword when necessary.

Elites are too focused on pride, for them it isn't very weird to use artillery as main battle tanks, ride vehicles that offer no protection (Ghosts could have a shield thing around the seat) and have commanders at the front line dressed in bright armor, exposing them to snipers and even basic infantry. They are stuck in their medieval times, even with all their tech they can't think of something new. I bet they could best Spartans and any other UNSC forces in combat if they didn't try to do everything by head-on rush.

Especially a salvaged beam rifle... After the Jackal Sniper street on Outskirts you get a lot of beam rifles. As the sword guys ambush you, you shoot them until they die. The energy sword is useful only against poorly equipped enemies, such as lone Marine squads and Flood (except the Ranged Forms and rocket launcher Combat Forms). Otherwise, the sword will always lose to a high-damage ranged weapon.

Sadly the energy sword is a poorly designed weapon from a practical standpoint. The gap in between the two blades can't functionally catch another blade, as its too narrow and nothing preventing it from going all the way down and cutting through the users hand and hilt. Next fault would be how its held and being that its held out in parallel to your arm instead being in a more perpendicular position like most swords, limits its effectiveness. Now its more effective than a katana as well it uses plasma, and a katana would never work in the halo universe in the traditional form as it couldn't pierce through armor and majority of enemies in halo have armor.

Geek Mechanic it would only be half decent at thrusting if it was done vertically so the opponent wouldn’t be able to slice down the middle. The energy sword does have one advantage that many over look, and that is the fact the it is deployable. Perhaps one could hide the hilt and deploy it to surprise the enemy just as said opponent begun his attack. Surely this could be a great advantage?

The stealth cloaks help, but I would imagine that a shotgun or another close-quarters weapon would be better in CQB. Although it may have merit in assassination, sabotage, or similar secretive work when used in conjunction with the stealth technology.
