I'm with you on your "rant". I always say "I'm 10% environmentalist, 90% cheapskate" when it comes to why I own a Prius. Now I'm filling my tank for $10! (2008 Prius with almost 100,000 miles.)

One of the joys of driving old cars; Took me literally one minute to remove the stock stereo on my 93 Cavalier. All these new cars are so frickin' hard to work on these days.
@deepfreezevideo8 жыл бұрын
+jakthebomb Really??? Sounds like the same integration that they did with the old Cobalt/Cruze lineup.
@MrAhicks668 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Beam I know, right? Pop the trim panel off, uncrew the bracket, pull the harness plugs and antenna, DONE! (I used to have a '94 Cavvie.) And how about the front speakers? That was even easier!
@kbeam4188 жыл бұрын
Those front speakers were super easy to do literally just pulled the covers off and you were done.
@repnatl7 жыл бұрын
lol I can have the old radio and mfd out of the gen II prius in under 10 mins these cars are super easy to take apart its mostly clips.
@thesilentobserver936 жыл бұрын
My '02 MPV was fairly easy. Just drop the steering wheel to its lowest level, remove two screws above the tachometer with a phillips screwdriver, and then just carefully pull the entire trim off the front of the dash. Four screws, also phillips, to remove the stereo. Quite simple. The front doors are fairly easy to, but you do have the remove the door cards. But those aren't too hard to remove and put back on. It's the rear that I've yet to touch, as I see no easy way to get to the speakers. Luckily I have four 12s back there anyway, so now way anyone would hear the two speakers back there.

This was a very positive rant. I was expecting anger, hate, shit talking, and non stop swearing. Still a great video. When you do take the car apart again maybe you could do a tutorial on how not to fuck up when installing the radio.

I installed a Pioneer X4800BS on my 2005 Prius. Spent about 4 hours trying to get the pac audio harness to work with my steering controls. If I unplugged the ac controls harness, the steering buttons started working, and if I plugged the harness back in, no steering controls. Frustrated, I threw everything back in and now enjoy the radio.

We got a well maintained Prius for $1,500 because it needed a new battery. $1,900 for the new Toyota battery and now we have a nice car that we've invested $3,400, and it shouldn't give us any major trouble for 12 years. We parked a gas guzzling Mercedes (should sell it I guess), and the Prius should pay for itself in a couple of years in gas savings alone.
@marco.morel045 жыл бұрын
@@nomebear another trick you can use is if your hybrid battery ever goes out call Toyota of America and complain and they may help you out by paying for half or all of a new hybrid battery

Actually considering all the functionality of the radio 400 bucks is worth it. Don't have to buy a GPS, hi-def radio, blue tooth receiver and phone separately. its all in one tiny package. Id like to see more about the resistor though. I'm going to have to tackle the job.
@rmarkward8 жыл бұрын
So when you installed the unit did it force you to use the radio-based bluetooth phone microphone or can you still use the blue-tooth calling functionality with the car itself? It's microphone is next to the inside light up top.

The triangle is on for the traction battery, rip it out, pop it open, find the weak cells, replace and clean then pray that you didn't put lame ones back in, rinse repeats till 1 million miles or deer totaling car
@Lilmiket10005 жыл бұрын
hahaaaaaa this is my same setup in my Prius and all my steering wheel buttons work. Apparently, the person didn't know to connect the resistors on the pink and white wire because my MDF does not show any info. Will definitely be checking into that. Otherwise, I love the whole setup! And yea why does the light suck so much in these cars! I'm going to have to replace with leds. It's going to look like walking into a space ship! lol

Hey man, great review. I also drive a Prius, and I get the hate from people but letting them know I go 400 miles on 8.5 gallons usually gets the point across pretty quick! Is your deck face removable? Also can you play your music through bluetooth? I was originally looking to just do a stealth install but I really like that deck and I love the thought of getting Sirius radio.

The pink and the white wires where the resistance goes, does that get plugged into the new audio system? I missed to add resistance and the climate controls don't show up on dash. Trying to find if I need to remove the whole thing to put that back in

Chester Soboleske I have watched your videos and admire skills and knowledge so I'm hoping that you will be able to help me. I have a 2009 Prius Japanese made which is just as the American but the difference is my car is a right hand drive and the radio does not have an axillary port, the radio does not come with a auxiliary input, but the car radio plays very very well and I would love to be able to hook up auxiliary port into it, is there anything I can do? If you up reply to this email address I will be able to get your message immediately so if you can I will be most appreciated...........theoxygen816@gmail.com but I will still keep checking this link to see your response.
