Hi Tim, do you figure there's a way to intstall a new LCD where the main screen is and integrate them? Would be great if you only needed one screen. I guess you'd have to somehow how install their display software on your stereo though - sounds tricky.

Speakerphone uses a new external microphone that hooks into the NEX - the internal mic is not used with this setup

nice setup. i have an 09 prius with jbl system and nav. (same gen as yours) ive been trying to get a smiliar setup to yours with 2 screens but i want to keep the nav on the prius MFD. how much was your setup with parts and labor?
@iPadProsPodcast8 жыл бұрын
+100timezcooler I forget the parts would be cheaper now that CarPlay has been around for a bit I'd expect with labor to be in the $500 or slightly less range depending on the CarPlay unit - the maps would technically still work on the Prius screen, but prefer Apple maps A TON MORE than what the Prius had, so hard to use for me.

PLUS, Prius maps are offline maps :/ while google and IOS maps are traffic connected.

does the carplay integration work over bluetooth or only with the additional HDMI to lightning cable?
@iPadProsPodcast10 жыл бұрын
It is a pure Lightning cable connection - USB to Lightning - no HDMI is needed; right now CarPlay works only over Lightning - Bluetooth isn't supported - not a huge deal for me, but can be for some folks

Do this work with the steering wheel button controls? And, what becomes of the Audio menu on the regular prius screen?
@iPadProsPodcast9 жыл бұрын
+Ken Smith yes the audio controls on the steering wheel were wired to the new CarPlay unit - can control volume, tracks etc. - the speakers are no longer connected to the original unit and you simply don't use the audio menu on the regular screen

How does your speakerphone work now? Does it use the built in Prius microphone, or did you have to install an external microphone, like some other pioneer models require?

Thanks. Is it a separate cable I need to order? Or just use the iphone usb to lightening cable to the head unit? Or is it installed through the back of the unit. (I won't be doing the install)
@iPadProsPodcast10 жыл бұрын
That model comes with a USB cable that provides a USB port in the main car cabin - so you can swap out lightning cables at any time to that extension cord that comes with it. If you want AUX in or HDMI in (useful for calibration of the screen and other features) then you'll want to have those on hand - I just have the AUX and USB hooked up.
@iPadProsPodcast10 жыл бұрын
Just make sure your guy plugs it into USB 1 (USB 2 isn't usable by CarPlay or updating the firmware)

sooo.. where do you get the Prius install kit for the Pioneer NEX 4000? i'm guessing its not included
@iPadProsPodcast8 жыл бұрын
+Jason schmidt I paid someone to install it - so not sure what all was involved in that process

So the Lightning is the regular white cord that comes with the iPhone ? Also can I watch movies with the same cord? What IOS are you using? Thanks for the speedy reply I'm very frustrated. What app are you using for pioneer?
@iPadProsPodcast9 жыл бұрын
Yea the Lightning cable is the ordinary cable you use to charge, connect to your computer and the cable that came with your iPhone. It plugs into the black USB cord that came with the unit. Watching movies isn't supported by CarPlay - quite frankly I'd rather use my iPad or iPhone for that and just use the car audio. I'm not using any app for Pioneer it will detect CarPlay when plugged in. You may need a firmware update if you haven't updated already - CarPlay works on iOS 7 and 8 - I'm on 8

is it fix in Pruis 200? And how do we install it ?
@bte749 жыл бұрын
Just bought the radio yesterday and I can't get the car play to work with my iPhone 6. What iOS do you have ? I'm using a lightning but it's thru an HDMI cord. The app box on the radio won't light up when the Lightning is plugged up
@iPadProsPodcast9 жыл бұрын
It doesn't work through HDMI - (even if Lightning cable used) - needs to be into USB port 1
@BobMock9 жыл бұрын
Yes it uses the same lighting cable you charge the phone with, not HDMI. I had to update the firmware on my NEX4000 to get carplay to work. The firmware it came with was prior to carplay release. Instructions are online or in the manual. Was a simple process.

where to buy this android system?
@LuisJacob3669 жыл бұрын
I cant find the carPlay app in the appstore or is not needed? I update the 8000nex to 1.08 an still detect the iphone 6 as an ipod but not make the mirror phone... Its an app? Or automatic?
@iPadProsPodcast9 жыл бұрын
So there is no app required - it is a simple USB cord - if you use the AV adapter it will not recognize properly. It is automatic - should be pretty straightforward

Tim Chaten I believe USB 1 is the only one it works with not USB 2 (the port number on the unit)
