Hi Jason, your content is excellent. It's great that you show the details of how you lay out the PVC fittings in the store to make sure you get everything. You are an awesome teacher and I can see why your in-person-hands-on classes sell out so fast. Take care.

Jason, When glueing PVC pipes, it's suggested to twist the pieces about a 1/4 turn when putting them together. This spreads the glue and eliminates air bubbles in the glue.

Great job. Love how you explain your figuring out, successes and hiccups rather than “how toos”. It’s something you, Al and Ben have in common. (Really enjoy your podcasts with them, too). Been there with guttering and plumbing supplies on the floor of a box store! 😄. Spent hours trying to figure out putting an idea into practice that has to be re-figured because a bit is missing or doesn’t exist. I now go to bespoke plumbing or construction stores. Where specialist sales staff or the owner is on hand who understand pretty quickly what I’m trying to achieve and points me to the perfect solution. Fellow buyers are professionals in their fields and often latch on and quip a time saving tip gained from a lifetime of experience one never sees on the internet. Bless them. They call me “here she is” when I turn up. 😂One of the stores has a retired CEO of a multi national construction company who works there twice a weekday week because he loves problem solving. He can even guess what projects customers are trying to figure out just by what they’re looking for. He loves it! Will you be putting a painted buoyant water level stick in the tank like Ben has in his pig pens? You could monitor it from the house during a storm! 😄

So glad to see you get a tank. We are Aussies..rainwater tanks are our usual water supply in rural areas. We have 3@1000 gal and 2@5000 gal. We have some very dry years and worse case if we get low..we can buy a tanker of water for delivery. How quick it fills depends on your roof size.. a 100 ml.. 5 inch rain day over flows our 1000 gal.. but we have 3 of them hooked up in tandem… it takes a few days of good rain to fill all three. (We open the valves between the tanks so they equal out).

The pad for the tank is essential I think. I would have preferred to see you build a block ring several feet high and fillled with compacted earth (high enough that the top of the tank is just below the collection roof). Then top with pavers (or poured concrete). That way the tank would give you the maximum drop and pressure for any hoses you attach.

Kudos to your design and installation. It's not a matter of how much time it takes to fill a thousand gallons but how much rain. If you get an inch of rain which is still a gulley-washer, it should fill the tank in one event. More power and pray for rain. I live nearby and need the help with gardening.

I like the picnic table there! Nice sunset Jason. I really like that leaf eater spout top! Those are some warped and twisted boards! Great idea to build a platform and have weed cloth down there. The gravel on top is a great idea. Easy to level and it will hold up that heavy tank no problem. I like the pavers you put down. Kind of helps the tank bottom settle down. Twist at the end of putting the PVC together. I like your strap method to attach the pipe to the leaf guard downspout. Nice! I love the way you put this together! We got rain when it said we wouldn't so maybe that forecast is wrong. Thanks for this video Contreras family!

Job well done! You definitely need sand since rocks will penetrate the tank over time. 1000 gallons x 8 lb per gallon is a lot of mass sitting on the sand pad. For winterization protect you bottom fitting. Buy it now while the store has it in stock not at the forecast of a hard freeze.

Hello love to watch you grow your homestead. I used first flush configuration will keep a lot of trash out of your tank. Use some type of gutter guard it’s cheap and will help keep the trash out of tank. I would leave gravel underneath. A slab it a lot of work you may want to move or change your setup someday.

Glad you vlogged seems like it has been a while. Even though I don’t really know you I feel like I do and was starting to wonder/worry about you. I have my barn roof draining into a little 50 gallon drum. Bigger roof. It filled up that barrel in one rain. I think I need a bigger container. But it should keep my chickens in water. I want to try a first flush. I saw one I wanted but didn’t look at it carefully enough. Probably more important for house water
