That kind of 10-2 should be in a conduit (if you're not running it in the wall). You'd need armored cable to do a surface mount. But the biggest thing is to get an electrical permit and get it inspected. If you burn your house down by accident your insurance would be contested if you don't have that install permitted. If it is permitted and approved then you're golden :)

I didn't want to be the one to mention the many violations and unsafe parts of the install. Having an electrician" hook it up is worthless if you flout all the safety regulations. BX should have been used and would have eliminated most of the hazard.
