When I was 10 my 15 year old brother helped by 41 year old dad build his dream 40'+72' barn. I slide the truss some 24' along the top. They were 2' apart. That barn in now 50 years old and Dad over built it. Back in the summer of 1973.

Hey Spencer! This was quite a nail-biter. You and Melissa are a great team and having family help is the best! This is going to be such a useful structure. Here's a thought, picture roll-up doors on the sides of the containers for access to the midway point. My company had a similar structure and the roll-up doors made accessing the entire container so much easier, because lets face it, guys like to pack containers with stuff. I'm sure you've got great plans already swirling around the brain. I'm enjoying watching the process. Have a great weekend and you all stay safe!

I set a lot of trusses with my 30 ton 110' of stick boom truck. It always amazes me when I see equipment on the jobsite that could do the same job with a little bit of modding, but the people are either too ignorant or lazy to figure that out!

@metaspencer 5 ай бұрын
110' stick boom! now that sounds like a useful piece of equipment :)
@woodrage1
@woodrage1 Жыл бұрын
That boom is a cool idea, but people really need to be careful. That puts a huge amount of stress on the rams and can bend them. It's a lot of leverage and we all know how much power a simple lever has. Shovel attachments on buckets can do damage too if people are not careful and watching.

The end trusses are saddle trusses and are not self supporting they are designed to sit on a wall,etc to form a gable end,(they are not triangulated)also being a gable roof you must diagonally brace the trusses during erection otherwise the whole roof could collapse like a pack of cards!!!This video is not how it is done in Australia!!
@metaspencer

It’s looking good so far. The rafter lifter mechanism seemed to be just what the job called for. I’ve never seen a come-along that uses a rope, but it makes a lot of sense for longer spans like your barn. I’ve been looking for building options to build something to hold our 42 foot RV and have some kind of structure that is reasonably priced, while still functional and insular able. I’d be curious to know how the cost of this structure compares to a pole barn of similar size.

Should have had a flat truss designed and installed instead of a stub wall which would have taken the loads to the corners. Since the roofs and walls do not have much capacity for load what did you do to support the roof?
@metaspencer
@metaspencer Жыл бұрын
I see your point there but the ceiling height would have been a lot lower. The knee walls come down close to the edges and seem to be doing fine. I've considered welding in reinforcing triangles ... I see your point for sure!
@gary24752
@gary24752 Жыл бұрын
@@metaspencer It shouldn't affect the ceiling height as it would be installed in place of the short stub wall you have on the exterior that would span the length of your container most likely what is referred to as a gang truss only it would be a flat truss. The walls and roof are not designed to carry any structural load, only on the corners.
