As a CCTV installer and networking guy - you´re doing good job, just a little nitpicking: the steel/copper wire in CAT5/6/7 is not for strenght, but as drain wire for shielding. it is fine to cut it off (along with the foil) for IP cameras (since they have plastic connectors anyway) but they are really important for data transfer and must be properly terminated on shielded RJ45 for data usage. also you forgot to use weatherproofing gasket (or how it´s called..) before you crimp the RJ45. thats the reason why the RJ45 female on the camera is so big - for dust/waterproof gasket (comes handy even in interiors, it holds the cable securely plugged in). anyway great job, and i wish you´ll pick better quality cameras next time. the quality is atrocious xD
@Ressy66
@Ressy66 3 жыл бұрын
The drain wire in this would also be the draw to rip the sheath down. I'm concerned he didnt strip down past the cut nicked pairs always happen no matter how good the tool or tools setting, avg cat 6 is 6.2mm outer diameter, I've seen some less some more, thats why you always strip 50mm below that point, cut off, then terminate with known good pairs. Yes you waste the first couple inches cable even if you didnt nick pairs, but youre not to know you have or hadn't, at least doing it this way, you wont get a call back.

The Reolink cameras have 2 different streams/feeds, one at low quality 640x480 for low bandwidth, intended for over the internet viewing and full quality stream which runs at a higher resolution and bandwidth, either 5MP (2560x1920) or 4K depending on the camera. It appears Tom has used the lower quality 640x480 clip in the video. I run a 5MP Reolink system at home and it is much clearer than shown when using the 5MP stream.

The network Poe cameras are the way to go 100%. Even if a client of mine doesn’t want to use Poe and chooses the cheaper BNC cameras, I still run cat6 for them. You can get connections that convert rj45 to BNC and 12v power. Plus running cat6 future proofs the cabling so if they do want to upgrade, you’re not pulling new cables through and ripping coaxial out.

Exactly what I was thinking. Also, those RJ-45 (well if we're going to be super pedantic 8P8C modular, but no one calls them that) crimp (not punchdown, that's for patch panels!) plugs that have a pass through are not generally well looked upon by professionals in the data cabling world. They have a bad habit of shorting out on the back of jacks, especially when poorly terminated with a flush cutter instead of the proper tool. If you're going to do data cabling you should probably learn to do it right with the standard plugs.

It certainly took me a few attempts to get use to terminating CAT 6 too! The best thing I done was purchasing a Klein Tools Pass Thru Crimp (same one as yours Tom). I wasted money on inferior items and spent too many late evenings struggling to terminate cables with cheaper non-pass thru RJ45 connectors. Would highly recommend especially if working at height for CCTV, WIFI AP's etc.

I like most of your work however i would much prefer to see a punched down IDC and a numbered faceplate to identify it back at the consumer end. imagine as an electrician finding a plug socket on the end of a 3 pin plug within a CU, and equipment running from it in the ceiling. It wouldn't be cool and you would judge the install. A security panel properly terminated says quality,. Clearly the cost was more important to this client. The metal core is not for strength either mate its he drain, ground to push electrical noise to ground rather than into the equipment. you're losing a lot of the features of this cable by cutting the drain and not using the correct connectors (FTP Shielded RJ45) its effectively like cutting the CPC off you don't need it till its a problem. Although simply not as dangerous. That looks very much like Cat6 Shielded LSOH without a spline seperator. High quality Cat6 cable will come with a dielectric spline separator core to reduce crosstalk between pairs. But as you said its for CCTV and not backbone networking and no-one needs Cat7 full stop much like most people don't need CAT6 for the most part either unless you are pushing 10gig its like gillette razors. All constructive criticism Keep the videos coming
@kittsdiy
@kittsdiy 3 жыл бұрын
Yep looks like CAT6 LSOH F/UTP ..( uftp witch foil an shield w/o spline ) Punch down IDC is so old school .. better a modular panel with Toolles keystones .. Eg Panduit / Gigamedia ( rexel) . +1 about drain/shield ..useless to use S/UTP when not using shielded connectors . For this setup simple CAT5E UTP ( 1gbit ) would be more then enough ..

Why not mount the IP Camera at the junction of two sets of aluminium suspension strips, and bring the cable through one corner of a ceiling pad? Less damage, perhaps, and if you want more security for the camera, it can be screwed into the aluminium strip - two or three screws in all probability.

The 'metal core' is not for strength, it's called a drain wire - it's for terminating the shield. The 'plastic core' is called a spine, and is also not for strength, but for maintaining pair separation. And no, you don't untwist every pair right back to the strip when terminating cat6 if you want it to be cat6. When sparks do data.. Now, in this application you don't require a shield (which means you shouldn't have bought shielded cable.), nor do you need cat6 performance, so you proceed to get away with it..

Just worth pointing out that Cat 5e and Cat 6 are only rated to 100metres any further and it is not certified to work (that doesn't mean that it will not). Probably worth installing Cat6a (LSZH) as the cost increase is fairly minimal and not having to return to the job to check problems has got to be worth it. Cat6 Up to 250 MHz, Maximum Cable Length - 328 ft./100 m for slower network speeds (under 1 Gbps); 180 ft./55 m for Gigabit Ethernet, Hypothetical Top Speed - 10 Gbps (over 110-180 ft./33-55 m); Cat6a Up to 500 MHz, Maximum Cable Length - 328 ft./100 m, regardless of network speed, Hypothetical Top Speed - 10 Gbps (over 328 ft./100 m)

I used to fit WiFi enabled cctv stuff, not anymore after metal clad buildings, poor connection to NVR etc, POe is so much easier, and more reliable. Good choice. I do like those Knipex cable strippers too, may invest 😎👌

Nobody should be fitting 5e anymore , its no longer minimum spec . Whist IMO you should be punching down into a socket in the celling and using fly leads the fancy RJ45s are nice.

i dont beleive Cat7 is an approved standard yet - although sellers are selling it. Also isnt the center plastic/metal not for cable strength but for seperation of cables to improve signal.

Bullet camera's inside= no Camera centered on tile= no Reolink gear= no As someone who works in the security industry i hope i can constructively say i disagree with what you have done on that CCTV install. CAT 5e is well within spec for use on the camera's (keeps costs down) and CAT 6 should be used for any links. IP are mostly plug and play but not all installer's would install a system like that. The laptop would be out to configure the system to maximise it's use depending on the site. I agree on the poe/ip, it is the way forward and Analog/HD is slowly being phased out.

I'd check the stream rate of those cameras on the nvr as it looks to be set very low. Try to aim above 4000 or even 6000. Unless you were displaying the second strem of the camera in the video.
