Thank you, Larry for the content! You and Brian over at Short Circuited Brewers have really influenced my passion for home brewing. I moved to an apartment where I could only do electric brewing and installed the same receptacle you had. Made my own brew panel and herms system. 240v is definitely the fastest and most efficient way to brew. Keep up the videos!

As a master electrician and home brewer I think you guys did a pretty good job.

I've done quit a few shops in my life and you were spot on. I tip if you have no free spaces. For most panels they make half hight breakers. So you get 2 breakers in one spot. Free up 2 spots with those then you have a spot for your 220.
@JH-ms3ny4 жыл бұрын
bones549 good tip! Some panels also support quac breakers that have two single poles and a double pole in between them, all in just two spaces. One large breaker. Availability depends on what panel it is.

Guess I’ll shop for one of those GFCI breakers. Good info!

Nice one. I practically did the same thing here in my garage. I also brought in a professional to oversee the operation and make sure it's to code. Cheers!

So my breaker is on the outside of my home and I'm not sure how I'd run cable to where I'd like the outlet. Am I best off just calling an electrician? Any idea how much that'd run me? Thanks for the video!

Larry, question for you. What are you using for a temperature control panel for mashing and boiling?

Hondo1126 is it a 4 wire circuit? If it is you could swap out that breaker for the 30A GFCI. If it’s only a 3-wire circuit it may be 240v only (as opposed to 120/240v), like a welder outlet found in a lot of garages.

Will this 4 wire plug work with the Blichmann breweasy compact system
@BEERNBBQBYLARRY2 жыл бұрын
It uses the same 240V outlet as the real BrewEasy: a L6-30R. I use an adapter to fit mine. Blichmann sells them too, but I got mine from Amazon. I found having the four prong outlet is more flexible since other brew systems use it, and it can be converted down to a three prong configuration via an adapter.

For my all grain set up, I ran 2 120 volt heating elements into my kettle, works great for a rolling boil. A 240 is more ideal tho, cheers!!

I'm in Australia, everything here is 240 Volt as standard, we don't have have any issues with brewing, there are some really larger large 65 litre / 17 gallon all in one brewing systems which call for a 15 amp power point though, most standard house power points are 240 Volt 10 amp, they are fine for brewing with the 30 litre / 8 gallon systems, I don't understand why the US and Canada are using 110V when the rest of the world is on 240V
@BEERNBBQBYLARRY4 жыл бұрын
It's a mess of standards, isn't it? There are other countries using 120V, and 240V is not a standard by itself since there is the frequency component as well (50 Hz vs 60 Hz) that pairs with it, so 240V @ 50 Hz isn't truly compatible with a 240V @ 60 Hz. And there's minor differences in voltage among countries (220, 230, 240). I think Australia is officially 230V since 2000 with backward compatibility to 240V. It is really all over the place around the world. Here is an interesting read: www.electronicproducts.com/why-doesnt-the-us-use-220v-like-everyone-else-in-the-world/#
@Peter-Southern-Victoria-Aust4 жыл бұрын
@@BEERNBBQBYLARRY yes I know, my brother is an electrician he has told me all about it, we are 240V @ 50Hz but apparently when you look it up they say 230Volts, perhaps it varies

Electric brewing is the way forward, the advantages over propane and LPG are overwhelming, things like temperature accuracy, don't have to worry about running out of gas, on a brew day. Brewing inside your garage with electric during winter. The advancements in technology with electric. More compact brewing all in one for those with limited space. The only problem I see is the immersion chillers as with a exposed element? May be a concealed eleminates like the Grainfather/ Robobrew work, counterflow might be another option for exposed elements.

@@BEERNBBQBYLARRY Thinking of converting my 13gallon brewing pots into electric with the Kegland 2200w, 10amp 240v heating elements they only cost $70 each . My only problem is my immersion chiller. My pots are wide and if I build standoffs away from the element won't get much cooling. Might make a new immersion chiller to fit on one side of the element to gain depth. Lucky I brought some grains and extra yeast before the 4week lockdown.

BEER-N-BBQ by Larry thanks for the quick replies so just for clarification on your set up when your heating element is plugged in to the 240socket where do you plug the pid in? Sorry I’m slow ...I guess I was thinking it might work like the 110inkbird I have where that goes into the wall and the heat source goes into it but for a 240v version

I can’t watch this and not comment. If you install any electrical, it needs to be inspected. It may seem pretty straight forward, but if not done to code it could cause a fire or death. So please get all your electrical installations inspected. Thanks.
