Installing a Bay window tank in a split bus .

This week we tackle the upgrade of a Bay window gas tank. This is almost a 50% increase in capacity. It takes a bit of work, but it's worth it every time you pass a gas station on a roadtrip. Facing That same install X2 .Thanks for the refresher course. Was going to save the old filler, but after seeing your install, it is getting cut and installed. Nice to see how well it slid in there, some vids show a base ball bat reshaping the top expansion of the tank, but a simple body panel adjustment is cool.

What a great video.. I have a 1958 split bus.. Need to do this ASAP but taking the engine out is a right pain with the duel carbs.. My bus has this fuel reserve tap that just is rubbish. Thanks for the video very helpful.

I use the Dellorto offset manifolds. They are tight, but the engine comes out without removing the carbs. Some EMPI/ Weber standard manifolds are too wide. 👍🏽

What is the capacity difference between a '67 (I believe '66 was the same as the earlier tanks and only '67 tank changed with all the other '67 year changes) tank and the '68 later bay tanks? Also, can you link where you source your connectors and crimpers? Thanks!

I believe it is 11.5 Gal. I get my connections from GoodSpeed. They are pricey. Don’t get the Amazon ones. They are like tinfoil.

Hi love the channel. I want to do this to my 67 bus was wondering what is the purpose of having the breather line come up and hook inside the gas door like that?

It puts the breather higher than the neck. And if it does push fuel out, the stock cap area has a drain tube that exits the motor compartment.

68-71. If you can find a 72 there will be zero mods to the body.

So weird i started my bus today and my 67 must be different somehow i see my tank has brackets behind it but even without those my tank pushes as far as it will go bottoms out at the rear top on the back panel and front bottom sits on top of the seal edge its lie my self is shallower it can not go far enough back to drop down any farther so I will have to make different of set of longer and offset brackets etc i guess i can prob make it work but i will not fit as we as this so wierd. have you ever done a 67?

The bus in the video is a 66. I have a 67 at the shop. I’ll check it out.

I’d show you but can’t send a pic here it will not go behind that lip And there is two brackets that look like probably for seatbelts or something that that bus doesn’t have compared to mine too, but that’s not the problem it’s the upper back corner it just will not go back further. It’s right on it and I cannot get that lip behind it, unless I move the lip forward .
