Easiest and quickest way to install a fan ! Man I was like where’s the switch leg ? The I realized that you just jumped it straight to the switch because of the existing light fixture in the closet ! Smart move dude 👍🏻

Haha I'm watching to mount on the bottom story room. I hv to just remove drywall inthe middle about ¾ in on the 2x6 joust so I can reset with drywall screws, should I just shoot straight for switch about a 45⁰I think it would save me time.

IGreat video and excellent advise. In my case I determined the center of my living room then with a long drill drilled into the ceiling. Wwent into the attic to install the same fan junction box you installed. After finding the drill placed the junction box support between the rafters drawing a line around the box. Using a razor knife I cut out the hole in the ceiling. Inserted the box in the hole and use 4 long screws to secure it in place. Patched into a line in the attic running the wire inside the junction box. Followed the installation instructions to install the fan/light. I use wireless light switches so the fan and light operate separately. Installed a 9 watt led bulb and set the fan to speed 1 which uses 10 watts. Everything works an easy job not complicated just a lot of labor took about 2 hours.

You should have used the 4 wire romex and connected the light to it's own switch. There are switches than will control both that will fit in a single switch gang box.

I have a capped hole in my ceiling there's a flat grey cable up there tucked in. I don't know if it's spliced in the attic. I want to wire up a fan. What should I do? It's a new construction

Why not use a 2x4 across if you were already up there? Was the brace necessary
@DuctTapeMechanic
@DuctTapeMechanic 2 жыл бұрын
You are right! A brace was a bit unnecessary for this application but I wanted to show how to install one as most people will need it

Ok so my house is wired with 14ga wire and I'm trying to get my power from a light in the attic which is also wired to my bedroom which I didn't know. So I wired everything and the fan trips the breaker so I changed the power to an outlet in the room I am installing this to and same thing. I did use 12/2 not realizing everything was 14ga could this be the issue?
@DuctTapeMechanic
@DuctTapeMechanic 2 жыл бұрын
In terms of safety you should be ok as the 12/2 wire can carry 20 amps while the 14 gauge can only handle a 15 amp load. However, your breaker for this circuit should be a 15 amp breaker.
