ADAM Audio was founded in March 1999 in Berlin. Since then the company has been developing, manufacturing and distributing loudspeakers in the field of Professional Audio.
The development of the X-ART (eXtended Accelerating Ribbon Technology) tweeter based on the 1960's invention of the Air Motion Transformer by Oskar Heil was largely responsible for the company's founding. Producing sound not with a piston-like diaphragm as is done in most of the loudspeakers that are on the market, but using a pleated diaphragm that is capable of moving the air 4 times faster than the folds themselves are moving was the appealing idea behind it all. The achieved results were intriguing and gave ample reason for moving forward.

Yup, started mixing immersive in my masters degree back in 2013-14 and been waiting for technology to catch up. Ofcourse back then we had to hash things together to make it work. So much more headroom, so much more space and so many more possibilities!

For those of us looking for a more budget friendly option, could you recommend something like a stereo pair of A7Vs, T7Vs for the surrounds, T5Vs for the heights, and a T10s sub? The frequency response of the T7Vs and A7Vs look similar enough at a glance that this kind of mixed array could work, especially with EQ. Do you have any other suggestions for this price point?

Hi Max! If you want to go with T Series, we would recommend not mixing the series. So you could have T7Vs and T5Vs with the sub T10S :)

​@@ADAMAudioBerlin Considering the A Series array I'm noticing that the A7Vs don't go down much below 40 Hz so a sub could be necessary to support them. Is the Atmos sub only meant to receive LFE while mixing, or is it fair game to have the stereo/stereo+centre speakers also feeding the sub?

Hi Max! In a Dolby Atmos setup, the subwoofer is typically not limited to receiving only the Low-Frequency Effects (LFE) channel during mixing or playback. While the LFE channel is specifically dedicated to low-frequency effects, such as explosions and deep bass in movies and other content, it is common and often beneficial to have the stereo and center speakers also feed audio to the subwoofer. So, it is fair game and often recommended to have the stereo and center speakers feed audio to the subwoofer in a Dolby Atmos setup, as long as you configure your AV receiver or audio processor appropriately to ensure a balanced and well-integrated bass response.

@@ADAMAudioBerlin Thanks for your great responses! Also curious as to what sub is used in this room. On the website it recommends matching a stereo pair of A7Vs with a Sub10 mk2. Would this sub still be able to hold its own in a full Atmos A7V room?

Hi Max! Yes, the Sub10 MK2 matches the A Series. It all depends on your room acoustics and room size. Consider also using 2 subwoofers to help distribute bass more evenly throughout the space. Multiple subwoofers can also reduce bass peaks and nulls that can occur in certain locations within the room. Properly integrating and calibrating the subwoofer in your Dolby Atmos room is essential for achieving a balanced and immersive audio experience.

Yep, 7.1.4 is the minimum for 12-channel Atmos (11 speakers and one subwoofer). Hey Adam Audio... where's my Adam Subwoofer that has surround bass management like the Genelec 7360A?

So from a listener perspective, who's going to go out there and buy 8 to 11 speakers and all the other shit you need? Do average listeners have the money for something like that? Even if they did what about the room? Do they even have a spare room for something like this? And if they do what hope do they have of ever being able to prepare the room acoustically for something like this? Room treatment itself could run you into tens of thousands. And even if by some miracle the layperson manages all of the above the concept is still kind of untenable. How does a three piece jazz band work on 11 speakers? Then there is the whole do you want to listen to music in surround issue? That's basically the orchestra pit perspective. Say imagine you're a french horn player or whatever section of the orchestra. That's going to be your listening position. Or if you were to go to a rehearsal and sit in the middle of a room etc. Music as an immersive concept doesn't really have a physical analog. You'd never experience it like this live. It will always be in front of you no? It's weird as a concept. A five or three or even a ten piece band can't be all around in a live setting. What this does do however is increase the revenue for speaker vendors. Now instead of giving PMC or whomever 10 grand for two speakers you're giving them 30 or 40 or 50 grand even for 10 speakers. That's nice how that works. Nice and convenient for them. The listener will probably just put on headphones with atmos or spatial audio you say? Well that's the most unnatural way to listen to music. Yeah you can do it but it's the worst decision a listener can make in my opinion. Anyway good luck with it. I don't think this is much more than a grift to sell more shit but if we all get very excited about maybe we can will it into something else entirely. A viable way to experience music.

95% of listeners of atmos music will be in headphones. I feel like it’s better for now to just mix atmos in headphones considering that’s where it actually needs to translate to. This is definitely getting push from the industry and not the listeners. People barely have 3.1 systems in their house if you’re lucky for movies. Basically a sound bar and sub. They will never experience the 7.1.4 system outside of a movie theater. For music it’s a huge money grab by protools, apple, speaker manufacturers, and streaming services. They all wanna sell more of something. That’s all this is. It CAN sound amazing, but it’s not worth the investment without already having clients push for it. Ultimately the big guys get albums to re-mix in atmos. They will get giant catalogs of music that must be remixed. But for engineers that aren’t holding gramys and already in with the big companies, it’s not worth it. Mix atmos in your headphones and you’ll translate to the people that actually matter.

Didn't ask for it, don't want it, not spending a penny on it. It's just another way for the industry to screw more money out of us... especially speaker manufacturers! And if it disappears just like quadraphonic did will we be given our money back? We can't even got the mass public to listen to music on a lossless format in stereo so what the hell is the point of Atmos???
