Great video, thanks, and good job to whoever was filming (Abi?). I like your point about reversing the baffle.
@DropTopTees3 жыл бұрын
Abi was. She is taking 2 courses in school on multimedia production and such and is slowly improving. I am trying to break her stubbornness in sticking to the "rule of thirds" and keeping me in the center of the picture instead of showing more of the car and having me on the side, but that is how they grade her in class, so it's been a tough sell...lol.

Great vid! I've been considering this as a redundancy to regularly cleaning out the AOS since it's such a task to pull the darn thing out. Guess I'll need to wait for them to come back in stock.
@DropTopTees3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. They were out of stock when I decided to get one, too. I gave up after several days and decided to get the Mishimoto oil catch can kit also sold on Eurocompulsion and when I logged in to purchase it, the EC can was back in stock so I snagged 1. It sold out again shortly thereafter.

@@edisonk Because if you don't the hoses cross over each other. It still works fine that way but it doesn't look as clean and a few people report it rubs on the bottom of the hood.

Sadly these installation instructions don't apply to European spec 124 spiders. There is an explosive bolt on each side of the car (along with an electrical plug) exactly where the catch can is supposed to be mounted to the body work. (Wish I had checked that before I ordered the part) Oh well, live and learn.
@DropTopTees2 жыл бұрын
There are many other places you can mount it.

I purchased a catch can from Amazon after watching one of your other videos. Question when installing the hoses my catch can has in and out. One line goes from the AOS to the IN on the catch can. The other line goes from out on the catch can to the Intake tube I have a madness max flow is this correct ? Hard to tell on your video.
@DropTopTees Жыл бұрын
Correct. In my case, I flipped the baffles so the hoses wouldn't overlap, so the oil runs the opposite way through the separator.

@@DropTopTees Thanks, I have everything I need for install except will have to do the step down hose to make everything work. $35 off Amazon for the catch can. Thanks again for the Amazon tip.

Sorry but why did you move the baffle to the other side? Purely for the hose position?
@DropTopTees2 жыл бұрын
Yes. In the default position, the hoses cross over. I don't like the look, so I switched them.
@carll6935 ай бұрын
I just installed the same catch can as yours. Are you 100% sure the baffles should be on the “IN” side vs the “OUT” side? Basically the “IN” side is coming from the oil air separator and the “OUT” is going to the intake/turbo. You suggested the baffles are on the “IN” side of the catch can.
@DropTopTees5 ай бұрын
I flipped my baffles inside the can so the hoses would not run over each other.
@carll6935 ай бұрын
I agree. But the baffles you said should be on the oil in side. Shouldn’t the baffles be on the air out side?
@DropTopTees5 ай бұрын
@@carll693 Seriously, it's been so long ago, I forget what the instruction said. I did it the way they said, but flipped sides. I've always seen the baffle on the IN side though.

After installing, will the remaining oil in the intake hose burn away? Should I clean it before / after installing the oil catch can?

I guess you could. It isn't ever really that much at any one time.

I don't race my car, but I don't know what the previous owner did in the 12000 miles before me, I do have a k&n filter system, which was all ready on the car, but I found when I went to clean it, oil was in the intake, should I worry about it, or ad this
@DropTopTees2 жыл бұрын
It is pretty normal to have at a small amount of oil on your intake filter. You can reduce how much it there by cleaning your oi separator and/or installing an oil catch can.

Hi I have a Abarth 124 spider and drive very conservatively but I seem to have oil in my air intake…. Is your advice different for 124 and abarth 124?
@DropTopTees2 жыл бұрын
A small amount of oil is pretty standard for these cars. An oil catch can may help. Cleaning the oil separator will also help. It does highlight the need to routinely check your air filter and either clean it or replace it. Personally, we clean our air filter every time we do an oil change.
@cobhamosteopathy2 жыл бұрын
@@DropTopTees thanks for your reply…after discovering oil I changed the AOS and the PCV and after 200 miles there’s still oil in the air intake… any ideas?
@DropTopTees2 жыл бұрын
@@cobhamosteopathy As long it isn't excessive, it is really normal operations. Keeping the oil separator clean and perhaps adding an oil catch can should reduce the amount you find in the intake.

My 124 Spider Abarth seems to burn oil when pushing hard. The exhaust tips are full of black carbon. Cleans off easy. When not pushing hard the tips stay clean. Do you think my oil separator is dirty? Do I need a catch can? Any advice would help as I believe you know what you’re talking about. I have 30,000 miles, it a 2017 manual transmission and I need to add 1 letter of oil every 1000 miles.

Did you have to get a longer bolt to mount the EC catch can *with* the Cobalt hood struts?? I have a diff brand of struts and I can't mount them because the catch can bracket occupies the same bolt hole. And the hole next to is has a circumference slightly too big for the same size bolt but too small for the next size up. Thought I'd ask before I start fabricatin'
