As a 15 yr old in early 1962 , my 1st car, bought with grass cutting money, was a 1936 cabriolet . Unlike you, i liked the way it looked with top up. Being my 1st car, i will always have fond memories of my flat head 36 ! Am really enjoying watching you get the 38 back on the road !

I like the top up once these are chopped and the roof is restyled. 36’s had a much more pleasant roofline from stock on the convertibles.

Old guy here pushing 79...and I remember the tail draggers from all the Hot Rodders running around in the early to mid 50s. The taller tires will add a little more to the tail dagger look especially with the fender skirts. I do remember some really low ass end cars that were damn near scrapping the tail pipes on the pavement which I always thought was way to much. This will look right in the ballpark of the look your going for.

The 38 is looking great! Thanks for putting on the cool original headlights, those other ones were ugly.

The lowered axle on the front looks better than I expected, but I'm not a fan of the tail dragger look. Thanks for putting 38 headlights back on the car. They give it a more integrated 1930s streamline look. I know it's a matter of taste but I prefer the open wheel look, although the fender skirts will give the car a period hot rod look. You're doing a nice job with this project.

What I like here is you guys get a car that needs an over all mechanical restoration and of course modifications that did not do so hot (but when we dig into the history of those modifications, we can see the level is not the same as what is available today). Getting this car into good shape can result in a driver that one could have confidence in to drive across the country. I think however that I would have aggravated the "keyboard warriors" (one of which I am) a little more and left those bug eye headlamps in place. I do like the original headlamps in that design. I think that Matt should keep this one as his personal driver though.

Nice! It's starting to come together! That front drop looks good! The headlamp changeout helps remove the bugeyed appearance. Yeah man cool 😎

Love that car! Not a fan of tail draggers but am waiting to be convinced. At 70 years I grew up with the late 60’s/70’s look but I’m not too old to change my opinion 😊. One of my favorites you have built and am another that is happy you changed the headlights.

No idea how much. It’s all relative to the height your car is. Every car this old is different since the springs can be worn out and sagging more from one car to another. We took the top 3 shortest leaves out

That was pretty commonly done back in the 40s & 50s. I have even seen them with checker board firewalls. Not my cup of tea but, it must have been cool back then along with the “tail dragger” look and the huge fender skirts.
