I worked at a Chevy dealer 1975-78 and we had transmission stands which had C-Clamps (which fit into those two holes in the side) to hold the trany (like in a engine stand). The front tab I don't know.

I have a 1978 Chevy pickup with a turbo 350 and mine has a strut bar that's mounted from there it goes all the way back to the transfer case
