Installing a machine screw or bolt as a nut on cigar box guitars

This is a commonly used way of installing nut, with a machine screw or bolt, as it is easy to install and avoids having to slot for the strings. However, it does need to be installed correctly in order to make sure your guitar plays in tune. Here I show how to do it and the mistakes to avoid.

At 11:20, I think the natural tendency is to cut deeper on the near side anytime you are doing a job. This video helped me tons. Thanks for the input.

Great stuff thanks John, quick question - would you slightly file the nut like you would for a bone nut or just let them ride on top?

Just let the strings sit in the grooves on the bolt, that's the whole reason behind using one.
