Installing a Microwave in the Trunk of My Car!

At 3am, my friend and I got hungry. So instead of visiting a 24 hour McDonald's, we opted to buy microwavable TV-dinners. Seeing as this was becoming a pattern of ours, I decided to invest in a microwave that I could keep in the trunk of my car!

This is not a video here, it was a journey, an adventure. The man said he will put a microwave in his car and he did. I don't know if you'd get famous off of videos like this but I'll watch them because I love them.

@arpitdixit9619 I just got so busy! Got married, bought a house, changed jobs. I have worked on a few projects, some skits with friends, and actually came up with our best one yet! But it was never completely finished. Will have to post part 1 sometime even if we never finish the series. Recently been thinking about getting back into posting videos again though… It is pretty fun.

Jason: @4:00 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. 21 subscribers....................... . Any questions? lol How about running it off the vehicle battery and running the vehicle so the alternator is doing the work, cause, how do you recharge your battery anyway? Gotta get charged somewhere convenient otherwise your defeating the entire purpose of your effort here. Look it up. It can be done. Don't forget, any battery has only so many cycle lives to it and the least/less you draw on it, the longer life it will be there for you = more calories! Good ending, especially the nitrous oxide tank.

Some van life people like to use microwaves that claim to have inverter technology, because they have a constant power output, versus on and off that a cheap microwave does.

Dont see how u can run 1,100w micro with only a 750w inverter. Thats not possible!!!! My 1,000w pure sine couldnt run the sane microwave so bought a bigger inverter. Als if its a Modyfied Sine Wave inverter it will run loud and eventually kill the microwave
@jasonlew_is
@jasonlew_is 3 жыл бұрын
I had a relatively cheap 750w inverter. Which is why it was happy to power 1100w. (So possible, just very questionable and should probably definitely not be done. That poor microwave...) Any high quality inverter would know it couldn’t provide enough power and shut down. Once I did more research, discovering the difference between pure dune and modified sine, I bought myself a larger pure sine inverter, and was able to run it much more cleanly directly from my car battery. (My small spare 20ah battery couldn’t handle the initial load.)

Why did you run in to a battery couldn't you have ran it to the 12V ports or is just for your trunk
@jasonlew_is
@jasonlew_is 4 жыл бұрын
I already had that battery from previous projects. With that inverter I possibly could’ve ran it into a 12v port in my car, but the inverter I used in the video wasn’t actually powerful enough to properly run the microwave. So getting a better inverter+wiring it directly to the car battery/a bigger battery than the one I used, would be more ideal.

This is the difference between someone that is intelligent and someone that is a 1/2 wit. Notice him struggling walking through the aisles with the microwave oven and trying to grab things out of the refrigeration units ? I guess it never dawned on him to question what shopping carts are for? As the comedian from The Blue Collar Comedy tour" used in his skit describing brain dead people..... "Here's your sign ". This example is PERFECT for this . 🤪 Unbelievable .Like to know how he makes a living ? McDonald's ?

The cartless fumblings were indeed for comedic effect. And in part a side effect from my old budgeting habit of only buying as much as I could carry. My first job was Subway at 16. After one year of that, I started as a drafter for a cable harness manufacturing company at 17. I graduated from college at 19, and am now a Design Technician for a medical device manufacturing company. My knowledge of batteries and inverters has not grown immensely but I do still aspire to one day build a custom lithium ion battery pack.

It actually does matter btw! Do hot side then ground. If it’s grounded when you go to connect the hot, it’s a greater risk of shock and it discharging. As long as it’s not grounded it’s a better chance it won’t pop or shock.

But if that’s a 700 watts microwave. How can you use a 20 amp battery? Don’t you need a 60amp battery?
@jasonlew_is
@jasonlew_is 4 жыл бұрын
The inverter I was using was pretty bad for my application, and was under powering the microwave. Later I actually bought a better pure-sine-wave inverter from eBay for $200. This new inverter would not under power the microwave. It would actually shut down whenever I tried using my 20amp hour battery, as when it tried producing 1200 watts, the voltage dropped too low and the inverter reset. I realized I needed a bigger battery so the voltage wouldn’t drop, so I tried running the microwave from my car battery. (Briefly, so as not to risk draining my car battery) And it worked! I’ve been considering making a part 2 to this video showcasing my discoveries, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Also I’m quite a novice when it comes to electricity, learning everything I have from google searches and limited experimentation. (I am by no means an expert.)
@iwilldie75
@iwilldie75 4 жыл бұрын
@@jasonlew_is All you need to do to power 1200 watts, if that’s the wattage for the microwave (I though you got a 700w) is this formula: 1200w divided by 12v divided by .85=118. So 118 is the amps that you need to power the microwave. So a 118ah battery is the smallest you can go to run it efficiently. And you need an inverter of at least 1800 watts.
