Installing a Mustang Gas Tank in my Model A Shop Truck

This time at the Quick Speed Shop I'm installing a '64 1/2 - '66 Ford Mustang gas tank in the bed of my Model A hot rod shop truck. Follow along as I fab up the mounts and assemble the tank.

I don't suppose I can steal some knowledge from you on this tank setup, I am doing my first Hotrod (I've only wanted one since I used to play with matchbox in the dirt mind you I am now 42 years old so its definitely been awhile. anyways, I bought a 1931 A pickup a few months ago and I am in the process of rounding up all the bits I have already acquired engine transmission and an 8.8. Any clue if this setup would work behind a stock frame? I bought a nicely boxed frame for practically nothing and I want to run fenders on my truck and I am not sure if I'm going to run the stock style model a leaf pack or coilovers but I am digging the idea of the Mustang tank because I want to drive the thing and 16 gallon fuel tank with a actual gas gauge is a great idea. My other question is how do you go about finding a gas gauge that fits the fords ohm's rating? I see from looking at RockAuto its 78 Ohms empty and 10 Ohms full is there a aftermarket gas gauge that works or do I need to solder some resistors to make it all mesh together? I felt quite a few cars but nothing ever quiet like this before, usually I messed around with 50s and 60s and early 70s cars where you were building the stock engine and maybe dechroming it or something but nothing ever from the extent of ground up. I bought a SW fuel gauge. They sell both ohm ranges on their website. The Mustang tank will fit behind the crossmember on a stock frame. My frame is fabricated from the firewall back and goes all the way to the rear of the bed, unlike a stock A frame. My bed floor is also raised and the bed bottom braces are removed. Not sure how the tank will fit with all the stock parts. You'll probably have to do a lot of cutting to make it work.

@@QuickSpeedShop thanks for the information. I was actually thinking of just mounting the tank similar to what you did. I think the top of the mustang tank is 16 gauge so it might become part of the bed floor, it's not like it will ever be used heavily as a truck other then just hitting the car swap meets here on the west coast. As for the fuel gauge i saw your video actually after I watched this one last night. Thanks for posting it.
