I’ve noticed when you set culverts you use smaller flat rocks and dry stack them at each end giving the approach a really clean finished look! I think there were two engineers involved, first - the homeowner's engineer who designed and PE stamped the septic system design (redesigning it two or three times from last fall) and second - a county Health Department engineer who inspects the work after installation. We all know every engineer always agrees with every other engineer (sarcasm), Andrew just gets stuck in the middle and has to eat three days of labor and machine time.

David Null, being caught in the middle is a terrible place to be. I think that tank was big enough to cover two engineers. Lol. Andrew did a fantastic job, both on the work at hand and keeping his composure. Impressive on both accounts.

Andrew Camarata yes their was f**k ups but at who's expense, you were just doing what you were told. What does that aggregate/screenings cost per tonne. Here in Australia about $30 per tonne for 20mm screenings or a 20mm rubble/road base material which we just use a scalps(non speck) is around $10-16 per tonne. Did you have to pay for all the extra material? Or did the engineer. I probably already know who.did.

Nice job Andrew! Those baffles in the tank are strange but make it easy! We just stub in 4" and make our own baffles with sanitary tees turned upright with a piece of pipe going down into the tank. I wish some of our operators could learn from you but we are in a completely different type of terrain. Nothing but rock!

OMG, I can only imagine the amount of equipment and man hours this project cost/lost. The fact you completed this project speaks volumes for your personal integrity. "This septic system could have gone a drop smoother." What a great attitude. Unless I missed it, I didn't hear Andrew say that he lost any money on this project, only time. He commented on an earlier video that he charges by the hour. So my hope is that his frustration was caused by having to do the work several times, rather than losing any money. The property owner should be very pleased with the work he did. Also, as an engineer for 30 years, there were plenty of times when I admitted my mistakes, took the responsibility, and did what was needed to make things right.

Being in the trades it's amazing how the engineers can seem to flip-flop and expect us to eat the changes. But we all end up eating labor for one reason or another. Just wish they were held to the same standard. Thanks for sharing the whole truth. I ended up drafting "Schedules of work to be done" for authorization. Then if changes were made, charges could be made. Architects and engineers never want to be called out for mistakes in front of their clients... You were the better party. Good for you.

You’re great. This is practical sewage engineering. I read about these when I was a civil engineering student without knowing what exactly I was reading about without seeing what I was reading about. I like it that you begin by telling your viewers what the problem is and what you are about to do. Who paid for the redo? It is good that you show your viewers the whole project including when things went wrong. This spring we are undertaking a project (build foundation and small home and a septic, etc.). Your video is really helpful in helping us to be prepared. On Andrew's septic install video -- "Report the engineer to the state engineering board" -- Andrew lives and works in this area. Do You want him to anger a local engineering firm? They'll be sure to give him lots of work in the future after he complains to the state licensing board.. Sometimes being a bad-ass as a contractor is the wrong way to go, Andrew needs to stay in business and have contracts steered to him by local engineering firms, if he or any small contractor cause problems there won't be any future work for him. Careful what you do if you want to stay in business.

I have been basically doing the same thing over the past few months. Although here in Kentucky inspectors are not as strict... luckily. It’s always an amazing feeling and a weight of my shoulders when I get a bigger job finally finished. Good job here, and like you said it’s better you show the mistakes rather than cover them up. It helped me seeing what is allowable and what isn’t even if the inspections here are not as strict. I like my work to last a long time while keeping ground water clean around it.

I know it is a pain, but if you wrap that black drain pipe in geotextile nonwoven fabric...it prevents root growth and clogging. It doesn't take much time. Some added insurance. Love watching this. I never understood much about septic systems till I watched this video. Love learning about this stuff!!

you have to make a bigger whole and fill with expanding concrete to seal it tight...the rougher the openong the better to lock it in....

Everywhere. Idiot Engineer on house Foundation. Brings a 4 stroke Hole digger for a site with about 600mm gravel over Clay. Gravel has stones. His lousy 2" borer spits out most of the stones. Result. Clay site. Call. "I did the oven tests etc. Clay". I lose it! Of course gravel has clay in it. Thats all you got was clay with your lousy 2" borer. Didn't you look at the turnaround at the end of the Sealed Road at the front . People have been turning there for years. Its Gravel. All the blocks leading up to here have had 600mm of Gravel taken off the top for Roadworks. Gravel. The house over the road tested 6 months ago using a 4" Auger has only standard Foundations. Its identical to over the road. You can't win. "No its a clay foundation." Yeah! $6 ,000 extra cost. Only thing is get the Engineer who did over the road. He hires a Contractor with a decent boring machine mounted on a pickup. The mistakes you make in a new area. I love the story one Builder told me. He has to put up a Retaining Wall. For some stupid reason here in Qld Australia the Planning Section looks after Retaining Walls. Ok! Hits a problem. Can't get the 450mm footing all the way. They hit an enormous Boulder just under the ground. Houses all around. No blasting. Calls Planning. Out comes a 30+, two inch heels, mid length skirt. He thinks he should not let her onto site. Not dressed correctly. Safety. He did not need an Engineer for this job. Only 180mm high. Regulations say OK. He just wants to leave the boulder. Chem set rods into the boulder. Only solution anyway. She leaves. Will get back. Of course she does not know! Planners here do no Building Subjects. They also do no Law. They learn Theories about good Planning. Often failed Engineers. Engineering to tough. Most others today mature age Women looking for an easy Course at Uni. I am certain many dream of being able to tell everybody what colour they can paint there house etc. Make the Street look beautiful. Back she comes. Not the normal letter. Its is OK. Must have talked to Building. Then like all petty authority people she questions the height of the wall. They put the rest up while waiting. The Builder had hurt his leg. "You will have to climb up and check." She was 5' nothing. She wanted to check the wall was high enough also. Up she went a few rungs in her two inch heels. He kneeled down to hold the tape. Looked up and you can guess. Right up her skirt. She was down in a second. He now was in control. As he relates it. "I have to learn to keep my mouth shut." As I walk back to her car I said. "Do you know I should not let you on site. You are not dressed appropriately ." His win! No! The Truss Company could not make the Roof Trusses as per the Plan. He saw Building. OK with them. "Just amend the Plans mate. Do what you have too do. But check with Planning". You guessed! She came out. Cost him about $2,000 to get an Engineer to prove it was not possible to stay with the original Plan. Of course Planning had approved the original House on Plan. How it looked etc. Not sure what they do? Planning here overall are absolute idiots. An odd exception. Completely out of there depth. Keep your mouth shut. Especially if its a woman. This guy is a wise man.

What is it with idiots who think when something doesn't go to plan a lawsuit is the only answer. Sometimes people change there mind, sometimes you hit something you wasn't expecting, sometimes people drag things out laws and regulations change and subject to renewal. I have 2 questions: Are you saying everything you have planned and executed so far in life has gone flawlessly? Have you never read a contract? a lot of them state and I quote loosely "request subject to change, additional costing may be required / occured"

@@ericharris893 The person who is responsible for getting all the ducks in a row and ensuring permits, compliance, site prep, design, etc, are all done right the first time so these issues don't occur? Yeah...That's on the contractor...unless...the homeowner wants to do some of the critical work himself to save money, but doesn't really understand what he needs to do, and doesn't have the contractor out every morning to go over the work being done. That's on the homeowner.
