Only been to one such social & it was fantastic when we were all milling around looking at cars, then a Trabant rolls in & we all scramble to take a look. Shows & Socials that focus more on unexeptional cars are so much more fun & the owners are never stuffy or snooty, always smiling & up for a chat

Like your friend, I’m a Studebaker person, but I also appreciate AMC. Also, my grandmother had a’61 Rambler American. I liked it. It had one problem. Anytime she made a left hand turn (especially on a couple of roads), the passenger door would pop open, and, like clockwork, I would grab the handle, grandma would grab me ❗️I’d close and lock the door [again], and as always, I’d get her warning that one day, I would fall out. It was bare-bones . The only 3 options she got: Heater, Backup Lights, and the metallic [blue] paint. Nothing else. I really loved the look of the dashboard, and the overall design, with the exception of the frowning front grille ( -should’ve been turned upside down). I like your Ambassador. Very nice ( and I like vinyl roofs on old school cars). 📻🙂

I just rewatched this video and enjoyed it just as much if not more than the first time. I love the Ambassador vlogs; my first car was my father's hand-me-down 1973 AMC Ambassador, which he gave me in 1981. It was maroon exterior with the same exact interior as yours. It had a little rust at the bottom of the driver's rear quarter panel (it spent its entire life in New York City, so road salt) but was otherwise immaculate inside and out. I treated it exactly the way you might imagine a 17 year old idiot would. Its life ended when I was racing a childhood nemesis in a colonnade Monte Carlo on the interstate at well over 100 mph. (By the way, whenever I envision Satan, he's driving a colonnade Monte Carlo.) The engine died and never ran right after that. My dad liked to keep his cars looking good but was incredibly lax on oil changes, and the car had over 70,000 miles on it, which is nothing today but back then it was beyond the expected life span of a vehicle. I miss that car a lot; I remember how hard it was to find an aftermarket radio to replace the factory AM unit, so I installed an FM converter from Radio Shack. And I have extremely fond if somewhat salacious memories of the fold-down front seats, a trait AMC inherited from its Nash parent. I love your car, but I kind of wish it was in worse condition so you could embark on more restoration adventures! Maybe you should buy another one . . . .

Joe Tralongo thanks, it does have the rear radio controls, but since my tent came from the junkyard (shockingly mint and complete) it is missing the mattress and built in inflator. I thought about adding the inflator but it is way too much of a hassle to put in if it wasn’t equipped with it originally.

It was the flagship of AMC never had a problem with it, traded it in for a 1978 Impala another great big solid car brand new out of the show room $6800.00 now for these goofy cheaply made small cars they cost you a small fortune!

Thanks for being a fan of AMC and thanks for watching! Why did your Ambassador have a Ford engine? AMC used their own engine in the Ambassador line, except for a few 1950s models with Packard V8s. For 1973 I believe the choices were a 304, 360, or 401 V8.

I enjoy watching your Videos. I live in Northern California. S.F Bay Area to be exact. Your car looks stunning after the new vinyl top. I have used SMS Auto Fabrics and i got to tell you they ARE the best. I know they take forever and the Phone Customer Service is so so. But I have used them on my cars. All Restored, 1960 Plymouth Fury, 1962 Rambler Classic 400, 1974 Chevrolet Caprice (Vinyl Top) and now my newest, Project a 1965 Rambler American 440 Convertible.with the 232 Motor. Total restoration, Seats, door panels, carpets. Correct Vinyl top from the 60s etc..... i even used just dashes in Van Nuys Ca for the rear interior side panels . not stiched with vinyl material but the actual process, the Vulcanized process. im trying to restore the car back to original. SMS was even able to die electric stamp the designs in the seats to replicate the original to the tee. With SMS one needs to be patient with them but they come through big time!! they are very good!! Keeping the Cars Original like you are doing with the Ambassador is Great. And keep up the Great work documenting the Great American Cars that are truly a work of Art. Take Care!

I'm not one that really looks at the stats of channels I like. Your content is always so good, and well produced, I figured It was right up there with all the other gearhead channels I like. WOW. It IS criminal how few subs you have, and how low the view counts are. I subbed right away because you do a lot of AMC stuff, and there are few channels that do that well (to say nothing of do it as well as you do). I always give you a like. I'd share, but that won't net you much. Nobody cares what I like, and it's more of a pain than it's worth. LOL With a smaller channel, though - the nice thing is sometimes the person running it will actually interact with you. I doubt I'll ever see a reply or like from Tavarish or Hoovie. So, I rarely ever comment. That makes it kind of like watching a TV show. Interaction with the creators is what makes KZbin - KZbin. I always jump right onto anything you upload. All the best to you.

I am so glad to see you had the top done! It looks great! I think I mentioned to you in another comment on another video that I have to give credit to the one who "sliced and diced" the original top. It was an interesting look. That car show you showcased would be right up my alley. It looks like it was fun to see the "odd and unloved". I also found your experience with SMS very similar to my own. It took so long for them to deliver on my order, I was ready to call American Express and accuse them of credit card fraud. However, having said that, the interior fabric for my 60 Buick Invicta looks EXACTLY like the original that was in the car. and is of very good quality. They also sold me replacement vinyl for a 72 Chrysler I had about 10 years ago which is also top quality. I look forward to seeing more from you. I enjoy everything I have seen you do, and I REALLY enjoy the fact you don't take it too seriously. You'd be a hoot to meet at a car show! Thanks again!
@AutoMoments5 жыл бұрын
So, it was actually me who "sliced and diced" the old top. When I bought the car, the previous owner had just ripped huge strips off the roof, so I trimmed all the loose edges, applied a quick coat of spray paint to the metal, and ran silicone around all the edges to keep water out. It was an ok temporary fix that wound up lasting longer than I planned. But now it's all done! I'm glad you're a fan of the channel and a fan of AMCs! Be sure to keep watching for more! I'd love to see your Buick someday!

All, fortunately were in beautiful condition as were the cars themselves. The Hawk was fully restored. Those SPC cars looked like Aussie UTE's. NICE. This was 11 months ago, hope your still Ambassadoring. What do you think when you park next to a "bathtub" 49-50? Personally, I've always liked the 51's. One of the names that Nash wanted to use on their new compact car for 1950 was Diplomat (to go along with Ambassador and Statesman). Dodge was using the name so it was decided to honor the origin of the Nash-Kelvinator company by reaching back to the days when the Jeffreys built cars. The car was named Rambler. Oh man! As you probably know, I am a massive fan of the Independents, AMC included and actually own a Studebaker. I always thought the Ambassador was so "government" that it would be right at home in any alphabet-soup federal agency from the GSA to the FBI! At least it was used and enjoyed by quite a few police forces, so there's that at least. In other news, the other automotive oddball I really have my eyes on (in terms of owning and driving) would be a 1948-50 Packard four-door sedan. Something about their slab-sided form seems both elephantine and regal which I really like. The 1,000 pound Thunderbolt flathead straight eight would also liven things up. God I feel old... Thanks again for the AMC update and best of luck!

I remember moving to Dallas right after I finished college in 1981 and Vinyl tops were all the rage, except the North Texas sun decided that it didn't like vinyl tops and proceeded to burn every vinyl top into a tattered grey mess within 18 months with its powerful UV radiation.

This is nice, but what Company did you buy the vinel roof from?
@johnclements68525 жыл бұрын
Joe bought it from SMS autofabrics in Canby Oregon, quality is good, service so so, and they seem to take forever so some folks say.

How much did the top replacement cost?
@NothingButRye5 жыл бұрын
My top for my Maverick cost 200 Canadian I believe. Will get it put on in the next month!

It depends...this one was kind of pricey since it matched the factory original color and grain, and it was already cut and sewn to fit. (Several hundred dollars) Without going into specifics, between the sanding+paint, the install, and the custom ordered top, the vinyl top was the most expensive part.
