Will be using this as reference to install my first pocket door in my master bedroom remodel! I made sure to line up that like button plumb and give it an extra click 😉

I taught myself that blocking trick a few houses ago when we remodeled the bathroom. I remembered how hard it was to hang towel rods and paper holders and mirrors with those silly anchors that don't really work for heavy handed objects because we all know they tend to pull out or just make large holes etc. I used pieces of scrap 2x materials. I didn't think about using plywood though, probably because I didn't have any of that scrap at the moment and I used what was faster. I just nailed the 2x between the studs in the areas where I thought the accessories would be going and then made a note of where it was and the measurements and points to find it once the rock was up and painted. I should have made a video about it, but I was in a hurry at that time.

I am building a house. My wife and I like pocket doors, but I don't trust many people to put them in right, so I will be putting them and all my interior doors in place when the time comes. Although I have plenty of experience installing doors, I have never installed a pocket door. Your pocket door videos are just what I need to make sure I get a smooth functioning, trouble free installation. Thanks for the lessons!

I did a remodel for a wheelchair bound man and he wanted all pocket doors so he did not have to back up and go forward to open his doors. He also needed grab bars in a lot of places, so I framed all the walls with pocket doors with 2 X 6 and then doubled the horizontals with 1/2 plywood and then sheeted over them with 1/2 plywood on both sides. that made the pocket door walls very stiff and had full backing for any wall hung items. It also left enough space for a slim line electrical box for light switches.

Cool. 2x6s would make for a strong assembly 👍

You should put in the title that this is a Johnson Hardware 2700. I was looking all over today for some reference because I had to install one. thankfully I was able to figure it out and get it done but this video would have been a lot easier on me today if I'd have had that in the title to search. Great video by the way I really appreciate knowledge like this.

Screws in a pocket door? When I was working for the phone company, I had to go on a call back and fix another technician's mess up. He installed a line into the bedroom, through the wall in the closet. He didn't check to see what was on the wall. The bathroom door was a pocket door, and as you said, was open/in the pocket. He drilled through the bottom of the slab, by about an inch. I learned that day not only how to replace a pocket door slab, but that it is also harder to match an older slab from HD, after 30 years hanging in the house. But in the end, the home owner, my manager and of course the other technician was pleased.

Great video with very detailed info especially for a rookie DIYer like myself. Sometimes I get it right other times I have to call in a professional to fix what I screwed up. I'm going to try to install a pocket door behind the side door of my high roof cargo van as part of the conversion and I think that a preassembled frame will make the task a lot easier with my limited carpentry knowledge. Could you give me a link to where I could buy one? Looking forward to more of your videos.

Hey Stanley we're glad we could help! We purchased our Pocket Door frames from a local supplier (we shop locally if we can) but you can just as easily head down to your local Lowes or Home Depot and pick one up!

Thank you for the very informative video!!! I wasn't sure if there is another video showing the actual door install because i was concerned how the door was going to work with the finished flooring. Are these doors usually sized to allow clearance for the flooring or does the door need to be trimmed to clear whatever flooring is used? Thanks again!!

Really enjoy your programs. Look forward to seeing them each time. Looking for some advice. I'm trying to hang a to towl rod against a wall that backs up to the pocket door. Obviously if I put an anchor in there and screw that's too long it will scratch the door. Any advice? I'm assuming I just use a regular anchor with a shorter screw perhaps 1/2-in or 3/4 but what would you suggest.
@nononono342110 ай бұрын
Pocket doors sadly tend to be loud, you have to use felt to make the rolling mechanism quiet, or rubber can work. They are also really bad soundproofing-wise, so if used for a watercloset or bathroom look into soundproofing solutions for pocket doors and get a full door, not a hollow one.

I had electricians cut in a double plug in the bathroom. The helper cut the hole then came and got me and the electrician cause he had a hard time cutting through the wall. When he was done he realized there was a solid wall inside the wall. It was our pocket door. 🙁

When they built my house they did exactly that - a screw too far and sliding the door left me a groove through the paint and timber.

get the aluminum or galvanized steel pocket doors you won't regret it. THey have a door guide that keeps the door from wobbling and they have way better rollers. The cost and effort to install a pocket door far outweighs the extra cost of the frame kit.
