In this video I install the rochester 2 barrel carburetor on a chevy 350. I talk about the vacuum advance and how it needs ported vacuum, I talk about the gaskets that don't have an opening for the pcv, and various other details. I may not cover everything but this video should give the DIY guy a general idea of how to install a 2 barrel rochester carburetor.

Recently bought a 77 Chevy G10 equipped with a 305 sbc and this exact carburetor. This video helped me solve all my issues with it!

Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm not sure if you watched my other video where I replaced this carb with a 4 barrel, but I decided to go back to the 2 barrel and hook everything back up factory. I will be making videos on rebuilding this carb. I promise you these little 2 barrels are probably the smoothest idling carbs and are awesome. even when they start flooding you can still drive them unlike a 4 barrel that will dump so much fuel it will kill the engine. they are very responsive and work great the only shortcoming is that at higher rpm if you are trying to race they do not have the capacity as a bigger carb.

My choke was totally stuck - once I finally loosened it to work using graphite, now my idle sounds like a jet plane taking off just you described in this video. The gas pedal is NOT down and the choke is closed. What next? Can you do a video or do you already have one where you have your throttle spring attached and show how it’s supposed to work? And how it should look w/choke closed & open??

Also What kind Of Choke Apparatus did This carb Have? The 2 GC Carbs i seen Seemed To Have a Vacumn Tube (???) But To What Place Or type Of Engine Heat Area It Went To? Thanx

What’s going on brother.. had a question. I have the same carb running on my 70 Impala sitting on a 350 crate motor..how many vacuum lines are usually connected to the carb? What are the important lines that can cause the car to stall when on drive gear?

There is a line for the vacuum advance, pcv, and brake booster if it has one. Also if it has a th400 there is a line to the modulator. As far as what would make it stall in drive. The carbs idle circuits might be clogged, or maybe you have a vacuum leak.

@@davidcraft4909 rite on brother thank you. Ya it seems to idle fine when I go to start it up but once I change gears it’ll stall…(shut off). runs good on the freeway but whn i come to a stop light it stalls.. can’t tell if its a vacuum leak or just bad carb.

To add to that. Ignition timing cab also affect it. Also assuming that car is not your daily. If it sits for months at a time the gas can get water in it and cause idling problems. If it randomly pops when you start it up that's probably water in the gas.

I have no idea where that gasket came from, but I think you can get them from oreillys. My best guess would be like 1975 c10 that came with a 2 barrel. Or maybe look on ebay for rochester 2gc gasket. If your pcv is routed through the gasket make sure you get on that doesn't cover the hole.

It's a 72 with electronic ignition? Did these C10's come out with that before everything else? The one I just bought is a 69 C10 350 but has a 1975 engine in it with electronic ignition. Yours must've had a transplant

Yeah it had been converted before I got it. I think hei came out in 75. The only thing you have to do to convert is use the same ignition wire, but make sure it doesn't have resistor on it that takes it down to 6V. Almost every sbc I've seen even in old cars have been converted to HEI.

@@davidcraft4909 that's good to know. All my sbc's have electronic ignition. The 350 in this C10 looks like it came out of a beater and the nice original engine was either stolen or repurposed. Despite the transplant being covered in oil and grime, there's no trace of that stuff anywhere on the truck so there's something fishy going on.

Any-one that Wants to Info help. I have a 85 4x4 That I want to Put a Simpler & Cheaper 2 BBL on to move It around Under Its own power. 305 with adapter Plate For 2 BBL . the engine is Not Good to Start with and a flat cam so I need to move it to where I will have help to switch engines. Planning a 2GC Carb on it But want To Know Idiosyncracies Of What All To Do/Check for To make It Work and plan To use same 2GC Carb On Next Engine Unless a Used Engine is complete With a good carb. & Poverty Retirement So Keeping Costs Down & MCS/Chemical allergies so Rebuilding any Isnt an Option So considered Either Ebay Or A-Team New carb. Any respectfull help appreciated. Thanx.

Hello, i have a V8 262 ci 4,3 with a 2GC, I have the same groove on the intake manifold but I've alway run with a 2 hole flange gasket ! no oil leak as you , it was like that when I bought it ! , do you think I'm wrong from the beginning with this gasket ? Must I change it for a 3 hole ? thank you

This intake doesn't have a groove, it's just a hole, and the gasket without the matching hole will block the pcv on this exact style. If your pcv works, then apparently your intake doesn't need it. They are not all the same. Some 2 barrel intakes may not even feed the pcv through the carb flange. I know for a fact some 4barrel intakes don't. But this style I have is the only kind I've ever messed with, so I don't know how all of them are setup.

If the pcv socks air then it's not blocked. If it's not broke don't fix it, lol

I had a 2 barrel Rochester on my 327. I switched to a 4 barrel edlebrock . Now it give me problems…smh I will put back the 2 barrel.

The 2 barrel rochester is actually the best carburetor ever made in my opinion. For a stock daily driver its not good for going fast. I actually had a 2 barrel that was flooding for a week before I figured it out. And the truck still ran and never died, it just idled and ran like crap. If a 4 barrel floods the engine will die and you will be stranded. Thats when I realized a 2 barrel is actually better for a daily.

What type of carburetor is it? Either way if a carb has problems idling it is most likely the idle circuit. Figure out what the idle circuit is on your carb and clean it out. You cannot just use compressed air, you will need to clean it out with a small wire or something. the last time I cleaned one I pulled some wires out of a stainless steel wire brush.

@@kingchrisc8997 well yeah, but focus on the idle circuit. and that applies to any carb. i recently took a edelbrock carb apart for the same reason, wont idle. and it had the idle adjustment screw broke off, lol. but yeah some people say just blow air through it and its good. but no. from my experience if something is clogged it will have some hard chaulky type of stuff in it, and compressed air won't get it out, it has to be scraped out. i'm not trying to be sarcastic but. if it doesn't idle then maybe its the idle circuit duh, lol. it could be other things too though. make sure none of your plug wires are burnt. make sure you don't have a vacuum leak. and so on.

I don’t know much about cars I’m barley starting to learn anything, but I’m planning on taking it to the mechanic this coming week, I got it from a friend and he said last they had it running good on idle but when they’d change gears it would die, so I’m just not sure what’s really going on , I also saw a video of someone else having the same problem and they replaced the egr valve and that did the trick.

@@kingchrisc8997 I'm not trying to be negative but most mechanics these days don't know anything about making a carburetor run. Think about it for the past 10 years shops mostly deal with OBD2 cars that have trouble codes. but good luck hopefully your guy knows about carbs.

I did not put a kit in it, but I have in the past and I think one kit fits all. Like they have extra parts for the few variations of carbs. I think they are called 2 gc carbs, I'm not sure it's been a while since I bought parts for a 2bbl

I’ve got a 74 c10, 350 2 barrel, and it will NOT idle in drive, and it has a very irratic idle in park. I do plan on switching to a 4 barrel intake/carb, but until I get to where I have time, does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? The choke isn’t sticking, and the idle mixture screws work as far as I can tell. Only other options I can think of are the accelerator pump/ power valve. I haven’t found any vacuum leaks either.

The accelerator pump will not effect the idle. I'm not really sure if this is the best thing to do, but I would just rebuild it, that way you know the float level is set right and it's clean on the inside. Also old fuel can cause idle problems.

What about sealant.....?? On the engine, between the carburetor's gasket...is it necessary.....???

Help! I think my carburetor is going bad! It’s started leaking and my spark plugs are black no spark to fire up .

If its leaking down into the engine and won't hardly run and is fouling the plugs. Its flooding and what causes that is the needle and seat valve is either bad or dirty. Especially if it was running good and then all the sudden it quit running. as for the no spark, that's another topic. are you saying it has no spark at all or just probably not because they are fouled?

@@davidcraft4909 there’s no spark and I suspect that is because of the fouled spark plugs. On two plugs there was this strong scent of fuel. I’m new to all this mechanics. Do you think I’d a bad a carburetor ?

@@Bubby4myTummy The carb might be flooding and that can foul the plugs, but also if the engine burns oil that can foul the plugs too. But I want to say that I have never seen an engine lose all its spark from fouled plugs, erratic miss fire yes. whats the history of the engine? like was it running a few days ago and started acting up? or is it an old engine that your are trying to start? Also if you sit there and pump the gas trying to start it with no spark then that might explain the gas smell on the plugs.

@@davidcraft4909 i bought the car a in September and when I got I would turn it on every weekend but for a couple of weeks I left it sitting there until last month. It’s a 64 Chevy impala 283 with the stock carburetor.

@@Bubby4myTummy ok, since it was running fine and then suddenly quit running and you have no spark. I don't know if it has a points or HEI but I would be looking at the distributor for the no spark issue. and I'm not always right but I don't think its the plugs causing the no spark. On a points ignition sometimes the points get corroded and you lose spark, on HEI its usually the ignition control module. or it can be the coil on either type. all of which luckily is cheap and easy to fix.
