After the video, I siliconed all the holes and put the gromets in, I also finished the heat shrinking. I worked out voltage drop etc using a chart from google, I'll explain more on the next video when I install a new fuse and switch panel. Thanks for viewing, remember I'm not a marine electrician, there are many ways and I opted for safety with slightly oversized wiring, calculated with current over distance to ensure it all works safely :)

Hi I have just found your channel and I am loving the boating bits, I come from the north of England I live in Wallsend but was born in North Shields and old fishing town, about 30 years ago I had a 16 foot fishing coble and me and a mate went fishing along the coast out of the Tyne is was great but due to bad health I had to sell up. The only thing I see in this vid that got my beedy eye was the fact you didn't silicone the through holes in the roof for the panel, I saw wood coming out so you must use marine grade silicone and pull the wire through and seal the hole or water will get in and rot the wood in the roof and it will be a pain to fix. Keep up the vids I look forward to seeing more, Paul from Wallsend ;-)

Nice one. I'd add a couple of Spot and flood lights. Small floods one pointing forwards, one pointing back, and a movable spotlight each side on the roof, maybe removable on a 'springy' cord for moving around a bit. ;) Very handy for searches at night ...

Nice vid. Tinned copper wiring is a must on a boat, due to moisture and vibration like you said. I'm a sparky btw, keep up the excellent work. looking forward to the fuse switch rewire

Recently found your channel and it’s great! I’ve just purchased the same solar panel kit for my own small boat and was wondering how you were able to fasten it to the roof of the boat when you don’t have access to the head of the bolt when you’re tightening the nut from inside the cabin? Cheers!
@AirbornePirates Жыл бұрын
Hi bud yes, it was a little tricky, longer bolts pulled through and tightened the nuts from inside the cabin, and lots of silicon 🙂

Nice video I think some silicon around the holes as you mount the solar panel would have been a good idea? 🙂

Thanks for the video. I have a question for you, I have a boat with an onboard battery charger. How do I implement a solar charger with the onboard charger? Do I still have to have a regulator, and on the outgoing side of the Regulator does it need to have 120 V plug that plugs into my onboard charger? Thanks in advance for your time.

When you set off in you're boat looking for sharks, will you use a deckhand to help film, chum, etc or go solo .

Thanks for the video. Does your solar charge both batteries or can it only charge one ? If it can charge two batteries have you shown this in a video ? Appreciate your help. Thanks Bob

Hi Bob, I currently only have one battery, I would get another charger for a second battery I think as it’s only 20W

Can you leave the solar panel on when engine is running? I know with the small solar trickle chargers if you do the power from the engine can blow the fuse does the controller stop this.
@AirbornePirates Жыл бұрын
Sure can, it’s got a controller which stops any issues I never disconnect

I thought you'd use silicone in the drill holes to prevent water ingress

@@AirbornePirates I posted before watching the entire video haha. I see you said you had rubber grommets. Looking really good.
@georgewashington7444 Жыл бұрын
Never use silicone on boats! It never comes off short of grinding out and it quickly fails. Overdrill holes fill with epoxy to seal and use butyl tape.
@Rob-ow3bx Жыл бұрын
Do you have to turn off the charge controller when you start up your boat?
@PegZ799 Жыл бұрын
Hi, at 3:58, using the heat solder connector, did you pull one wire all the way through and give the wires a twist together before pulling the connector back over the wires? I've read that this gives the wires a better connection, also states this in some of the boxes that the connectors come in.

Hi, im looking at investing in one of these, I have a small 16ft boat with an inboard 2cyl diesel engine running a single battery the Alternator is a 35amp unit, if I install the solar panel to keep battery topped up for bilge pumps whilst on a mooring would the alternators current when the engine is running damage the controller supplied with the solar panel? Or would i have to isolate the controller when the engine is running? Thanks
@AirbornePirates2 жыл бұрын
It’s absolutely fine as the controller is inbetween. Not had any issues with mine 👌

Can't wait until you are out and about on your boat mate deffo As a keen fisherman I have no doubt that we have Great White sharks visiting our coast there is absolutely no reason why they wouldn't Maybe they are just passing through but I think they are here not in great numbers but but they are here I hope you are the man to prove that they are here Good luck and keep the videos comming thanks

Seal the screw holes properly , connect red cable to red cable so if you sell it or something happens there is less confusion , account for voltage drop on a 20w solar with all that thick cable , usually enjoy your videos but I only lasted a couple of minutes before switching off

@@darrenhale6320 voltage drop worked out with a chart prior to wiring. screw holes sealed properly with gromits and sealant after install.
