This quick video demonstrates how I used a 4 inch spring loaded gate wheel to fix a leaning wooden gate.

The production value and voice over work are surprisingly top notch for such an otherwise dry topic. Good job sir!

thanks David. Ive enjoyed narrating films and video productions for 50 years and now enjoying making these short videos particularly the shooting videos and repair of firearm problems. Hope the gate wheel works for you. i found that once it breaks in it smooths out. Rick

Our very heavy gates are getting these. I didn't know how to calculate the spring, but I have a better idea now. Thanks for quick and easy instructions!

I just attempted to fit such a gate wheel. There was no instruction to create tension in the spring as you had done so I presumed it wasn't the right device for the job. Without the tension, it doesn't support the gate sufficiently. Thanks for including this in your video. Regards from Dublin, Ireland.

Well done. I have a little different approach to my aging fence. As it falls apart I make an annual walk around the perimeter and remove any detached/sagging boards and use them for kindling. At the current rate my fence will be all gone in about 4 yrs.😂

Psh I don't got pavers just concrete I beefed the heck out of my post and what not still.. when I got my house in 2010 I put gates with solider sheets for privacy knowing weight might be an issue. I had to go back and reinforce the post more. and it's really still not quite enough. I want to get some of these gate wheels it's for concrete but the concrete isn't totally level there's probably a difference of dam near a foot by the time the gate swings out. The double gate is in total around 10 foot 7 inches wide approximately. Paid a lot in the day to have it installed but they stinged out on the wheel that I had asked them about and now I wanna get one but I can't deal with plastic castor wheels. Need some solid rubber wheels and no tube tire crap.

Why did you compress the spring on install? Seems if the gate is going to sag overtime you would want no compression?
@skycamproductions11 ай бұрын
hi split, good question. i surmised that the gate was leaning due to its post being at a slight angle. rather than mess with the post i put more pressure on the spring to correct and it came close and so far it has held in the position shown. not perfect but better than pulling brick and concrete to correct the real issue. still works fine and the wheel holds the gate open. thanks for ur suggestion. rick

My gate sits on a slope, would this work for it?
@skycamproductions2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mari, the wheel will only rise two inches. If your slope is more than that, the gate and its post will take the stress of extra height. Rick

I have this wheel and over time the spring has gotten weaker. I wonder if the nut on top is to tighten the spring compression?
