Thank you for this video! It was the only one I could find that showed me exactly where the plug was plugged in.

I opened my box and the plug-in spot was already taken. I have a 2018 1500 LT. No brake controller stock or aftermarket. It’s the same wires and plug. Wires run straight down under the carpet. Any thoughts on what this could be?
@thecountrylivingproject32632 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't know what it could be. Is it a previously owned truck?

I had that controller before I hated that it flashed everytime I hit the brakes. Traded it out with a Tekonsha P2.

Does curt make custom wiring harnesses? I.e would I be able to buy this set up for my 99 GMC suburban 2500?
@thecountrylivingproject32634 жыл бұрын
The harnesses made for specific vehicles (what I would refer to as custom harnesses) are for those that are brake-controller-ready, for example the one I used in this video. However, I don't think your year Suburban has the available port to use (not brake-controller-ready), in which case you would need their universal wiring adapter. One end plugs into the controller, the other end doesn't have the clip, just separate wires that need to be spliced into your existing wiring under the dash.
@TheKellisunshyne4 жыл бұрын
@@thecountrylivingproject3263 My vehicle has one, it's a 2 pin plug in that is located on my relay panel in the same spot as yours but it's a different panel and the place where the harness would plug in says NAT...I used my power probe to verify that its tied into my brake switch circuit (when i push the brake pedal in I get battery voltage and when the brake pedal is not pressed in I lose battery voltage). The problem is i cant find any one that sells the harness that is specific to my year, make, and model. Thanks for the video as well as your input but I think your right about needing to splice into the brake circuit.

Why not use the oem brake controller?
@thecountrylivingproject32635 жыл бұрын
The truck didn't come with an OEM controller installed, and apparently you can't add an OEM controller afterwards on the Silverado. Not that I don't think it couldn't be done but if so it would for sure require much more time and expense.

I definitely forgive the shaky video. It’s a big enough pain to get these jobs done without having to hold a camera also!

How can you tell if the vehicle is controller ready?
@thecountrylivingproject32634 жыл бұрын
Probably best place to check is the owner's manual. If that doesn't help, I'd try Google search.

What is the weight of your camper that you pull? How does your Silverado handle it ?
@thecountrylivingproject32634 жыл бұрын
The camper is 28 ft. with a dry weight of 5,225 lbs. No problems with the towing at all. My truck has the 4.3 liter V6. Rated towing capacity is 7,600 lbs for the truck but I think if I were to haul something closer to that maximum it might struggle a bit.
@tyler5604 жыл бұрын
@@thecountrylivingproject3263 Thank you for the reply! I have the 5.3 v8, I just didn't want to get something to big and have the truck struggling to pull it at 65mph.

My daddy left me his 2006 chevy I had a friend remove it cause it was sparking now my breaks have slowly but horribly gotten louder and worse than ever, even after a 1700 dollar trip to the local tire/break shop

Thanks for making this video but I was wondering if you can help me out, I got this same set up for my 2018 silverado but for some reason once I was done installing it there's no lights on the unit
@thecountrylivingproject32633 жыл бұрын
I haven't run across that issue. I guess check to be sure the harness is plugged all the way into the port under the dash, and also fully inserted into the cord coming from the unit. Could also be you have a bad adapter cord, or a bad unit overall.
@sergiodelatorre60973 жыл бұрын
@@thecountrylivingproject3263 Thank you for the advice, I sent the unit back and ordered another one and I'll make sure all the connections are in all the way. Thanks again for the reply 👍🏼
