We call it Self amalgamating tape here in the UK

The solder joints on wirings hardly ever look much better. Copper is an excellent heat conductor and sinks the heat from the soldering iron like nothing. Cranking the temperature up a little may help, but usually only a soldering iron of 50+ watts output will cope with the heat sinking of fatter wires. So no worries, that job was fine! 🤗 Your dad´s Weller soldering station may be strong enough if you crank up the heat a little further. However, it'll be good the way it is.

We actually had a cable issue with the soldering machine and ended up dismounting it completely 🤣

@@nataontheroad That is a big factor for a working solder joint, actually. I had similar issues with my big old soldering iron (An unregulated 60 watt beast that will fry all electronics it touches within a second!). Thus I guess I feel the pain you went through there.

Yes absolutely!! That's what i do very often! Phone + a camera etc... !!
