Installing A Wideband O2 Sensor On My 4cyl Jeep To Understand How Modification Affect Fuel Tuning

If you have done engine modifications or plan to, there is a good chance that you will affect the factory fuel tuning of your Jeep. Installing a wideband O2 sensor is a good way to monitor the air fuel ratio in your engine and help you to know what changes to make. In this video we install an AEM wideband O2 sensor into my exhaust header and use it to understand the fuel maps for my 2.5L 4 cylinder Jeep engine.

Has any of the new changes affected mpg from stock?

Certainly, I can vary the mpg quite a bit with the PC3 but any change can affect what the computer expects in open loop scenarios. Fortunately in closed loop it relies on the built in O2 sensor and can normalize the air fuel ratio regardless of modifications or environmental conditions. What you need to watch out for is when a modification makes a change beyond what the computer can adjust for. That is where the wideband O2 is really useful in helping you find if that is happening, so then you can make corrections with tuners like the PC3. Sadly the biggest driver of MPG by far, is wind speed and direction. Aside from making the jeep more aerodynamic, there is not much you can do about that.

Hey dude, looks like a fine sensor install. For me, those exhaust fab projects always end up not as imagined lol. Anyway, do you have your pcm fooled properly with your positive map values? Just thinking the lean reading with high load could be pcm getting scared and pulling all the timing, that way your fuel isnt all burning by the time it leaves your head, creating lean reading because all the oxygen hasnt combusted, and is there for the wideband to pick up. If the pcm is taking your timing, i don't have a solution, but I thought maybe you'd appreciate another take on it.

Hey dude! lol I hadn't though of it that way. Totally could be! I don't really know. All I do know is that after reducing the fuel trim I was in a range that the O2 sensor could more accurately read again. Its odd because it seems to be pretty responsive and accurate while driving over 30mph but in the lower rpms, especially after startup it just reads a constant 14.7 or something really close without changing. I think it was doing that the last time you and I were messing with it as well. I have gotten the fuel map dialed in pretty well now with the supercharger, It will give me 12 on heavier loads and about 13-14 on lighter loads with the supercharger on and boost at 2-3psi. I needed to bump up the fuel pressure by about 4psi to get enough fuel in higher rpms but overall I am really impressed with how well I can dial it in.

@@JeepSheepTV right on man, sounds all on point! Is there an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator in the plans? You could totally get that extra pressure you need up high. Maybe pcm would even trim it all down for you down low
