An Air Crete shed, this shed is a one of KIND! The Honey Do Carpenter invented the foam Mate to inject foam into concrete to make air crete. Air Crete is lightweight, Fire Proof, and bug resistant. We use portland cement mixed with foam to create air crete. It has great insulation qualities and budget friendly.

This make’s me so excited! Now I have a plan to build a K-12 school right here in the Philippines! You have no ideas how much you have blessed these beautiful children with a cool safe place to learn. In three months we plan to start the construction. We have the land right on a main road with a beautiful fence already in place. It’s going to be so epic with all the different ways we can use this aircrete. May God bless you with all the desires of your heart! I built my own foam maker from the old green dragon we invested in a year ago. That old green dragon was way to difficult to handle and now it’s so much easier with my new design. I still may purchase the foam mate when I return to the US.

Do you have total costs on this project? I figured the slab costs 500 since it was 100 bags. how much shampoo and portland cement ? The steel costs ? Also did local building codes allow an experimental material such as this? Does it smell like sauve shampoo every time it gets hot or it rains?

you should consider switching out the metal frame for wood. Most of the reason I'd want to use foamed concrete would be for the insulation value, having the metal run from the outside to the inside at every union is going to create thermal bridging between the outside and inside air temperature. Wood has an R2 for every inch, which I suspect is closer to the concrete.

I was thinking along the same lines, and wood could be used to increase the sheer strength, by running a 2x along the top.

Search tilt wall construction. They build buildings and houses like that out of regular concrete. This aircrew if it can make big panels have only a fraction of weight so I would love to see if it can be used like that,so far my only concern is surface hardness

The weakness in the sheer, is likely at the top and bottom of the panels. You might gain double the sheer strength by running two 2x4's, across the top of the panels, and the bottom of the panels. then the panels could not kick out, front to back, or side to side. Of course, we could also test that. I'd try to get one on each side of the steel framing member, , to really screw those things together.

I am really enjoying watching you put up this shed. Would you mind doing an episode on the overall cost analysis of building this? Also, the aircrete is cool, but how are you making the steel frames?

He shows it in earlier videos. The metal is from a DIY store already with that section. He snips it to allow the bends and spot welds it IIRC.

Great experiment and really inspiring. However, I feel that your shed would not have enough shear strength. An earthquake shake might easily collapse it. How about tap weld here and there between your metal studs?

Your project is going very well! With that same plates, will you build the roof? Your project is very good and I also want to build a house prototype with your system. It is a great option for industrialized homes, prefabricated, from Argentina I attach a big hug!

hi could an air-crete dome be covered by earth (like a hobbit house) and support that type of weight? thanks
@normbograham3
@normbograham3 4 жыл бұрын
no. people die every year from retention wall failures, and sometimes basement wall implosions. Hydrostat pressure (wet behind the wall), is really hard to fight. Which would be the same for a dome concrete roof. Drive around your neighborhood, and see how many retention walls have failed. Likely more then those that are still standing proud. Some of the best underground structures, use soil, trucked miles away, and not the native soil to the location, and solid concrete, or rebar enforced shotcrete. But...getting back to air crete, it's packed with air, which is great for insulation, by compromising compression strength. So, you should likely not be trying to test it's compression strength. A better solution, might be to sandwitch it between two concrete domes, soil nailed together? But, hey, I'm not that type of engineer.

How about making the panels much smaller and in standard sizes? Then you could lay them on top of each other in a staggered pattern that prevented there being vertical seams between blocks all the way up from floor to roofline?
@AndrewHelgeCox
@AndrewHelgeCox 6 жыл бұрын
How about having the edges of the panels be concrete rather than metal? Then you could join them with mortar for a nice seal and to bond them edge to edge.

I love what you're doing, let me start there. But... I think you need a better "system" to connect those panels. R value wise you're compromising the integrity of the thermal value at every joint with those metal studs. What if you made a form that has interlocking grooves or something??. Just a thought, you've done your homework obviously.
@yrunaked4
@yrunaked4 5 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing as well but im sure the Air Crete needs something to keep it contained. I would imagine it being quite fragile and with that being said the building may have good compressive strength but Im not sure how it would withstand other forces. It would seem that the joints are no stronger than a few sheet metal screws. I am also curious about exterior treatments. can moisture freeze and damage the exterior surface???

I like your video but as a lifetime concrete guy I can see many things that I would do different. For instance you could do like we do tilt up buildings EASY. You use your concrete floor of the shed to pour all of the wall panels on. Spray it with bond breaker first and build the entire wall windows doors and all as one form, with block outs for doors whatever. Then simply stand them up and fasten them from where they lay. You have a lot of seems between those panels to seal. One solid wall or two would be WAY Faster.
