Installing an Amazon snorkel on my fj cruiser was not easy

Installing an Amazon snorkel on my fj cruiser was not easy!!! So being the broke everyman that I am... I bought a cheap snorkel kit on Amazon. This is a copy of the TJM snorkel for the FJ Cruiser, and they said it fit 07 to 14, which already sounds fishy, but I gave it a try.
I'd link you to the snorkel on Amazon, but now about a month after I installed it, it's gone from Amazon. I should have known better.

Two things, as a former Toyota tech, you should paint the bare metal from drilling or cutting. Touch up paint of any color is fine but silicone alone isn't enough to stop corrosion. The second thing put a heat gun on the tube to the A pillar to release the pressure on the fender. It should help some. Nice work though, sometimes you just have to make things work or work with what you have got.

That's a good idea about the heat gun, I hadn't thought of that. I bet that would work great!

This is actually a good snorkel. I just installed one this morning. Tip 1. The template is not correct. If you fix the drilling template you will not have issues bolting it on and your fender gap will set correct agents the door. 2 do not bend the brackets like he did. If you do you will play hell getting things to fit. 3 you do have to cut about 4 inches off like showen in this video. I cut it 3 different times until it dropped into place. 4 do not mark and drill your a piller until the snorkel is bolted to your fender and setting in its final place. Then mark drill and pop rivit then bolt it to the snorkel. 5 get m6x1.25 hardware with large fender washers for the base and also the a piller. Using this where he used Phillips head screws. Will save you headaches. Enjoy.

@@ernestjohnson1807 ya I should have replaced the Phillips screws that came with the kit. How did you get the a-pillar bracket to fit without bending it? Mine was miles away from fitting...

A friend of mine bought a cheap kit for his GX, and it fit like a charm. I just wasn't so lucky...

Yup, I extended both breathers not long after buying the truck. I didn't do the trans or the transfer case breathers, but they're pretty hard to reach. I think I'll do those the next time it needs a clutch. Thank you for watching!

Nothing wrong with buying a snorkel when you know you go through water that is higher then your hood more often then not they do have there purposes

Honestly, even though it’s an eBay snorkel, it’s one of the better looking snorkel. It makes me wonder what the TJM snorkel fits like perhaps less modification? Great video though!

Ya, I like the look of the tjm style. It was also important to me that it not have the "arm" that reaches up the fender as I have zero doubt it would get involved with an obstacle at some point. And now that I have it installed, it seems to work great. The only real complaints I have at this point are that I can't put a pre-cleaner on it due to the angle that the main tube terminates at. It's not straight up. That and the silly hole that is made for a foreign market blinker that I haven't set about sourcing yet. Other than that, functionally it's fine. Thank you for watching!

I saw some post about The Cove being close off recently. Hopefully not true.

I heard the same rumor... From what I understand they put up signs on the main road in, by the farm which is a public road, so they can't close it. Also that the land that has the Pryor Ridge entrance has been sold, and that might get closed as well. Worst case, and a blessing, coalmont OHV park has opened for business. All the trails connect, so you could just pay to ride coalmont and just make your way back into the cove.
