In this video I show you how I installed an antique stained glass window pane, into an interior wall. This will allow natural light into the a small secluded bathroom, while also giving the house a sweet, one of a kind, built in feature.

shortliner68 thank you. I have done old windows similar to this on hinges, where you can open them to let air circulate throughout rooms.

Wow! I wish that I had this video 3 years ago. I’m embarrassed to admit but we still have an unfinished hole in our wall from 3 years ago and are just getting to it now. We are total beginners. I don’t even know what a shim is. We have a room with no light and want to put two windows in the wall to let some light in. You used the pine furring because your window was smaller than the opening, but if we create our opening and order our glass afterwards, is it not necessary?

Im doing the same thing adjacent in a bathroom. Its near the shower where steam can get near it so im sloping the bottom piece and using azek trim. Tile will be around it. You did a great job and thanks for showing us.

Looks nice. Here's an awesome tip for you. Use good ol drywall spackel for nail holes and joints. Sands easy and hides everything! I got this one from DFW Crown. He's got a YT channel. When it comes to molding work, he's one of the best out there.

Actually latex chalking works best. Its flexible and wont crack. I use it on all my mouldings.

Great work as always, Jeremy -- love your videos! Someday, I'll have to cut a whole in a wall and try this out... once I get a nice piece of stained glass :-)

The frame was very thick and covered a good deal of the stained glass. The rebate for the glass need only to be enough to hold it in place. 10mm is more than ample.

Great video, thanks for sharing. Can I ask what the purpose of the small bits of wood are for that line the inner frame? I’ve seen this a lot and wonder what they are for as it looks like you can probably install the glass without them. Thanks, D

Hi Del! I had the same question, but then it just dawned on me that he did not just build this wall. He is installing this stained glass in a pre-existing space so those small bits of wood, however many one might need, help get the space the right size for the particular size of stained glass that might be used. Ya see, I'm building my own framed walls for a diy camper and I will not probably have to use this method as I will be able to just go ahead and build the frame with a framed in space that is already the exact size I need. Hope this makes sense. Great question!

Great video. Now I need advice on how to safely take a 3 section stained glass panel out of a window where it is installed. Not sure if it was originally three sections or one big one.

Love it! Freakin simple and awesome! I've been wanting do something similar to a closet that created by previous owner with simple drywall in basement, that we turned into a small prayer room. Main reason is to bring natural daylight into the medium closet size area. Now to decide on just plain opening, glass blocks, clear glass panel, or some stained glass like you did. Size would something similar to yours or slightly bigger

Jay Moto take a look around at your local salvage places. Or if you have a Restore in your area they can have nice stained glass from time to time.

@40 second mark, what did you use there? Firring strips? What dimensions?
@jharmondesign
@jharmondesign 5 жыл бұрын
laz3rman1 yeah I measured the window and the opening. And had about 3/4” difference. So I ripped some pine furring strips to .375” and tacked them in. You could also use shims.
@laz3rman1

@@jharmondesign cool, thanks. My rough opening isn't framed in yet. My window is about 42x22 and also has 2 support braces holding it together. I was debating on sitting it directly on the 2x4 or elevating it somewhat.
@jharmondesign
@jharmondesign 5 жыл бұрын
laz3rman1 I would give yourself a little room and shim the window in to guarantee its level in the end. A small gap will also allow for air movement in damp rooms like this bathroom. Or allow for insulation if it’s exterior.
