Installing an XTRONS PE72500FL head unit into a FIAT 500

This video is a tutorial that shows how to install an XTRONS head unit in a later model Fiat 500 (2016-2019). It explains what's in the box, how this all works, and how to physically install the unit in the car. It also includes some very basic usage information.

Quick follow-up: the wife plugged in her iPhone and Apple CarPlay works flawlessly. You use the CarAutoPlay app on the head unit for this and it can be set up to automatically launch when the phone is plugged in

Thanks for the video! I did the exact same installation today thanks to your clear explanation, went pretty smoothly. My original Fiat unit (without GPS navigation) had two antenna cables plugged in at the back, one with a white plug and one with a gray plug. I plugged the white one into the Xtron's antenna entry and FM seems to work fine, but I couldn't figure out what the gray one was for. I still have to verify if DAB+ radio is working.

Best guess is the gray one is the antenna for picking up satellite radio but I never felt the need to actually find out 😉

Thanks for the video. I am assuming that there is a microphone already in the car for handsfree calls. Did you need to connect this cable to the new head unit? (I didn't see any mention of this in your video). Thanks.

Great video. Did your car have backup camera built in? Or did you add it? My 2017 500c pop only has backup beeper that makes noise when too close. I HOPE to add backup cam to my fiat.

Our Fiat came with a backup camera from the factory, which works no problem with the XTRONS unit. As for the USB port in the glove box, that's a charge-only port and gets power from elsewhere so you don't need to hook it up to the head unit

Awesome video! Just bought the cables + canbus as I already had de the head unit. But I do have a question: do all the steering wheel's commands come from the canbus? Shoutout from Brazil! :P

Yes, the steering wheel controls are all CANBUS, and if I remember correctly there's a menu in the head unit where you can (re)program the buttons to do certain things

Hi! Great work with the head unit! My Uconnect 7 unit broke down, black screen with Fiat Logo, works just on the last radio station on which it was before. I bought from Amazon an Boomboost unit, same as xtrons. I have some questions: this unit it only works with engine on or contact on? I cant make it work when i wait in the car with engine off? The blue contact from the Uconnect/car, that it is used for GPS, we don’t Connect it to the new unit, we just hide it behind? Thank You very much!

Correct...key must be in "ON" position or engine running for the head unit to work. Blue connector may be satellite antenna, if your new head unit supports satellite it'll probably come with its own antenna

It's an SD card slot. You can buy an SD card from XTRONS containing maps for use with the built-in maps app

Hello... thanks again for this video. couple more questions. can you confirm if the new stereo still has ability to change the "car settings"... the menu on original stereo that has ability to turn off radio with door open close. or setting the day running lights? Also... can you confirm the stereo output is low level?... because your car and many others actually has factory stereo amp in the trunk.

Settings in the head unit are done though CANBUS...if your head unit has the correct CANBUS module and you set the head unit for the proper vehicle type the settings options should be available. I don't know if stereo output is low level...you should ask XTRONS about that

Does your F500 had Beats o Bose audio?, If yes, the amplifier was connected directly with the wiring harness that cames with the estereo?

Only 1 adapter needed...the port in the glove box is for charging only and isn't connected to the audio system

Yes, and IIRC the head unit has a feature where you can actually program what functions you want the steering wheel buttons to perform

XTRONS does make a head unit for the 500X but it's a bit different than this one. You can buy them directly from XTRONS or Amazon

Last I looked XTRONS sells a slightly different kit for the earlier 500 dash layout but the install should pretty much be the same

Don't have one that's integrated into the head unit. XTRONS sells an OBD module for it though if that feature appeals to you

Check out the video I mentioned in my vid...the one that had more detailed configuration info. I want to say that there's a somewhat obscure setting in the head unit that fixes this particular problem...changing a number from 0 to 2 or something like that

@@chrisfreemesser5707 ah ok thank you, i ve already checked the CAN bus settings. It seems like the AMP isnt starting up with this Head unit. I got a 595 competitione. Maybe they send me the wrong Harness.

@@KingThInk We didn't get the 595 version here in the US...does it have the same audio setup as other 500s? If the amp is different it may need a different CANBUS module (assuming the amp is powered up by a CANBUS signal). Contact XTRONS if you can't figure it out...their customer support is apparently pretty good

Fiat is pronounced fee-et not fee-ot.

That may be true in other parts of the world but here in the US it's pronounced "fee-ot". Check out some of their US TV commercials for proof if you like
