A little tip, you can add status=progress at the end of the dd command so that it actually shows you the current % of work done :)

I've had to come back here about twice a week as I keep trying to find a distro that's right for me. Thanks for sharing your information and experience, I really mean it.

Seeing how I have spent quite a bit of time trying to get into Linux, the most true statement I have ever heard with Linux is "Installing and Reinstalling Linux" as I have found myself doing that over and over again. :)

Wow, thanks a lot. Probably wouldn't have a working Pinebook Pro with the OS I wanted on the emmc without this video. Now it is a great machine.

Great video. 👍 Tip: adding status=progress to the dd command line should display some feedback on how it's going.

Do we add this command at the end if his script ending in: /mmcblk2 status=progress ?

Great video, only thing is my pinebook pro after clean install to emmc cannot boot to sdcard anymore afterwards. What gives? How do I restore boot priority to the micro sdcard?

This video was helpful although it looks like Manjaro updated the way the os is flashed onto the pinebook pro. Now there is an arm flasher GUI app that you can install on Manjaro ARM. It made the process much more streamlined. I at first tried it using the method above but i guess I needed a special version of Manjaro so the OS would stay stuck booting up :(

thank you it worked ubuntu mate on pinebook pro

With the SSD addon can you boot from SSD and would this be the similar process for installing the operating system on the SSD?

Absolutely perfect, thank you! I wanted to get Debian installed instead of the default Manjaro and this went on flawlessly.

Thanks for the video, very useful for installing an OS to the eeMC, although in my case I used Manjaro and managed to use USB storage to write an img to the drive.

Is there a reason to use Belana Etcher over the USB Flasher provided by Pop!_OS?
@LearnLinuxTV4 жыл бұрын
I haven't actually used the one provided by Pop!_OS, it's probably fine.
@gunnargervin12752 жыл бұрын
Can't I just use the dd command to copy the ISO to the SD card ? Do I have to use Etcher?

Thanks for the info. I thought that I would need an adaptor to flash the eMMC module via a USB on a different computer if I wanted to change the included OS on my Pinebook Pro. Looking forward to the review.
@michelderosa26954 жыл бұрын
The usb-to-eMMC module could have been used, but that would have required opening the case, and I suspect Jay wanted something a bit less hands-on (at least on the hardware side). If you *do* choose that route, maybe because you want say more (128Gb) internal storage, than just keep in mind that you need to be careful when actually opening that case: - keep track of the long/short screws, and where they go.. - *and* pull the back cover gently, because the speakers are taped to it, and you don't want to go ripping off wires in there. - there are 'sharp' edges in there (the eMMC module being one of them), so huh, don't cut yourself ;) On the other hand, going that route you don't actually need to download the OS image twice . You won't actually be saving any time here, but you'll be flashing the same image, using the same software, just on a different 'type' of device (eMMC instead of microSD).

Can you please do a video on distros that has GNOME desktop on the Pinebook Pro.

I'll definitely consider it.

Awesome video! Only problem I am having is... the only computer I have with a SD card is the PBPro. So I can't write to it, and like you I tried... glad I'm not the only one that had dependency fails. Maybe Amazon has some kind of SD to USB dongle thing. Can't tell you how much I appreciate you putting this video up.
@michelderosa26954 жыл бұрын
Amazon does have quite a few of them. I got a UGreen usb 3.0 all-in-one, about a year ago, and it's come in handy. Now it might be overkill, considering all the module types it supports, but for less than $20, I'd say it's well worth the flexibility it gives you.

USB SD card readers are usually fairly cheap. I have a few that I use on my desktop.
@BillSawyerPlus4 жыл бұрын
@@LearnLinuxTV Indeed, got on on Amazon next day as was able to put Manjaro on the SD last night. So much better than the default OS from Pine.
