It's been a few days since this was filmed and I have now driven the car more. I have made a few changes to the map and I’ll be sharing that in the future. It runs fantasic with really good throttle response. Pulls very cleanly all the way to 5,000 RPM (I don't want to push it more) So far it's a really good product!

Hi Adam, where did you find the formulas for the various curves? I just got my 123 Distributor after watching this video and would like to set it up properly. Thanks!!
@LivingWithAClassic Жыл бұрын
@BrianMadsen-yj8df I worked them out myself. I took the curve from a series 1 distributor and modified it. You can find the curves for the original distributors if you google them.

I am using a 123 distributor on a 1968 4.2L etype. My curve is different than yours with 0 degrees below 1000 rpm. The car starts and idles beautifully. This is the best upgrade I have made to the car. Once you have the timing correct, It’s great to know if there are any performance issues then it’s probably fuel related. I am going to try your map because it’s so easy to do.
@martinnicholas98672 жыл бұрын
Hi adam ,this is very interesting this 123 dizxy set up,like that .Being able to ajust timing sitting in the car on the fly. In some way it"s condunrim that they run so well with a new point's dizzy. It the 123 seem's to be a cheaper way to big tuning. Rather than a full ecu.

M8, it's been a long time since you uploaded a really interesting video and this is definitely one of them, I don't want to discourage you, make it's the reason I don't still have my XJ6 , but this video was absolutely marvelous and i would like to see the tuning process in the future.Cheers from Greece. P.S.Also i though that maybe you would be interested in my XJ6 Series 2 which has 60K original kilometes, and is the same colour as your's.

Another great video Adam - thanks. Do you know if this can this be done on a V12 HE engine in an XJ-S?

They don’t have a V12 version. The Lucas system used on the HE V12 is very reliable and works very well though

Congrats on a successful installation of the 123 Dizzy. In my experience the best money I ever spent to improve the performance of my cars has been to install a new high performance distributor. Especially here in the USA where the factory distributors were set up with a lot of ignition retard and lazy advance curves for exhaust emissions control purposes. Do you think the 123 Dizzy has improved the engines "driveability" and throttle response?
@LivingWithAClassic2 жыл бұрын
So far it feel more alive and more willing to rev. I still need to drive it more but so far it feels great

So on a 6 cylinder engine with the standard 1-5-3-6-2-4 firing order, #1 and #6 pistons move together so you can time the engine off either cylinder. That is 10 degrees before TDC on #1 is also 10 degrees BTDC on #6. Jag for whatever reason numbered from the flywheel forward instead of front-to-back. And yes, you can also time a typical 4 cylinder engine off #4 for thew same reason.
@bobcooke6346 Жыл бұрын
Sorry, did I miss you moving the coil, I thought you planned to mount the coil on the side away from heat ?

Adam, I’m curious to know your record keeping for your cars. Shoe box full of receipts or glovebox full of notes… On my cars I keep an updatable 2 page email printout of the maintenance intervals and work done in my glovebox. All the cars I’ve purchased came with zero history…frustrating to know what has been done and when. It’s very useful when I sell a car….here is all the work done and how much it cost.
@BrianMadsen-yj8df10 ай бұрын
Hi Adam! Just out of curiosity, how many inches of mercury does the app say that you have at idle? I fitted my 123 and it says that I have -7. Just wondering if yours is similar. Thanks!

Hi this is really helpful especially the advance curve maths. One question. For my 1969 E Type 4.2, would the curve be the same as yours? Can I just copy your numbers into the 123 app? Thanks again Simon
@LivingWithAClassic2 жыл бұрын
Yes that would be the same curve and yes you can just copy them. I took the curve from an old instruction on how to test those distributor. It is a Lucas 22D which was used in 4.2 E-types and series 1 XJ6.

Just watched this video. There is a mistake in your programming on the vacuum section. The very first point number 1 @ 0 pk should also have 16 degrees. Otherwise your vacuum chart does not make sense as the advance should not have that drop off. Also, have you noticed that the screen now shows the possibility of putting in a note about Static advance. This came about from a software upgrade.
