The pictured wire diagram in the video is the opposite of what is actually being demoed. I smoked a kit because of it. I also think one of my kits came dead on arrival too, as it appeared that the wifi was already set up.
@TPLINKTECH3 жыл бұрын
Its actually not. As is stated in the video you simply need to make sure that you properly identify the Line and Load wires. Also you need to make sure that the same wire is used in each box as the traveler wire. For example if you label the red wire traveler 1 then in the other box the red wire would also need to be traveler 1.
@TPLINKTECH3 жыл бұрын
@@perriponders289 No it shouldn't. The main switch has the Line and the Satellite has the Load wires. Load is what carries to the light. The traveler wires are what tell the two switches what is on and off, and as long as you use the same wire in both boxes for the same traveler 1 or 2 it should not matter which one is label 1 or which is labeled 2.
@TPLINKTECH3 жыл бұрын

I have added this switch successfully in my last home, but somehow in the new home the wire colors don't match from main to satellite boxes and I'm not sure if I fried the switch or not as it just stays constant orange without blinking. I switched the traveler wires in the satellite and it doesn't seem to make a difference and switched the traveler wires in the main and still solid orange.

I would suggest reaching out to an electrician to determine which wire is which. They would be able to assist with unusual wire colors. Once that is known the device can be properly installed.
@bobmorgan38042 ай бұрын
One thing I must be missing, in the existing place where the dumb satellite switch is, how does one know which one is the load and which one is the traveler if they are both black. In the first step you use the tester to see which line is the Line… But when you open up the satellite plate and switch, the two Black are there. Which one is which?
@TPLINKTECH2 ай бұрын
We are not an expert in electrical wiring. I believe the load will respond the same way as the line does but for a question like this it would be best to consult an electrician.
@BruceBailly3 ай бұрын
Trying to follow this which seemed pretty straight forward (nice job) and I thought I was finally going to get this working. I've identified what I think is the box where the main switch will go. • ID'd the Black LINE wire in this box and labelle. • Connect this Black wire with the other Black wire in the main box, I get 120V on the Black wire in the Satellite box (so I assume the black wire is a Traveler wire?) • Connect this same Black LINE Wire (by itself) to one of the two Red wires (the light goes on) and there is no change in voltage on any wires in the satellite box. • Connect the Black Line wire + Black (Traveler?) + Red Wire (one of the two), I get 120V on the Black wire in the Satellite box. • Connect the Black Line wire + Black Traveler + Red Wire (one of the two) + Red Wire (second of the two), I get120V on the Black and Red wires in the Satellite box. So now is where my confusion starts (continues). • Leave satellite box wires all disconnected. • Main box on the Main 3 Way KS230, I connect the black wire which I labelled LINE to the Black wire lead on the Main switch. • White Neutral to the White bundle. At this point I hear a click and there is a flashing red circle on the main switch. • I continue on….. • Green to ground. Red circle continues to flash • Connect the Black Wire (Traveler?) to Traveler screw. Red circle continues to flash • Connect one Red Wire (Traveler?) to Traveler screw. Red circle continues to flash. • Try connecting to the individual White Neutral’s I the bundle and I get nothing except when I connect White Neutral from the same cable as the Black Line I get the blinking Red Circle on the main switch and no voltage in the Satellite box. What am I missing? Do I need to connect wires or add switch in Satellite box?
