I have the banks CAI installed on my 17 L5P, but I also have the horn sitting on the sidelines because I battled that back stud for too long and gave up 😅 going to try again whenever I have a free weekend. That tape trick was pretty cool

To really see the effects of the banks upgrades you should do boost pipes on 1 truck and the intake horn on the other as the first upgrade. Then you could see which has a bigger power increase.

I would finish those up with a small torque wrench. My powerstroke blew off the HSM pipe 4 times before I changed companies and a torque wrench.

Be nice when the derringer releases for the new l5p, so far I have the pedal monster and the I dash on my 24 at4 2500 with the duramax, fun additions but the derringer will be nice . Then delete

Josh had to open the hood on that V8 with all those hoses and lines and shit himself. 😂😂. I see my buddies Duramax, and i just start laughing at all the hoses and lines running everywhere compared to my Cummins. Im not saying one is better than the other, I'm saying one has to be easier to work on than the other.

Curious, why didn't you do the cold air intake at the same time?

Yes, the cast aluminum has a great resonance that the stock plastic intake elbow otherwise dampens.

So he says the engine will breath better implies GM purposely designed the air intake system to prevent less than ideal airflow. I'm wondering how many CFMs the engine can pass and compare that to the CFMs the exhaust can pass and the CFMs the stock intake system can pass. Is that information available? Is the additional CFM's the Banks system provides published? If the exhaust system can't pass what the Banks systems can add, well ... Not wanting to throw a wrench in the process but I am curious. I went through this a while back with my Cummins just to discover the factory designed exhaust and intake matched what the engine could pass.

Banks have all of this data from doing research, a lot of these trucks from factory are essentially “choked” down
@InLineDiesel63 ай бұрын
@@JoseOrtiz_1416 I can't find any info and I can not see any reason why a manufacturer, under pressures for efficiency and MPG requirements, would "choke" an engine, it makes no sense especially while they participate in the endless horsepower/torque wars. I'm thinking Banks is a marketing campaign to convince a need for instead of a solution for as was the case for their RAM Cummins.

@InLineDiesel6 if you think all manufacturers make all vehicles in the best possible way, I have a vaccine to sell you.
@InLineDiesel63 ай бұрын
@@xhawkeye8717 Actually I'm quite seasoned hence the questioning. I'm not asking because I don't know but asking in hope of getting others to ask these questions. I already know the answers, well I did 15 years ago. I'm a retired GM Powertrain engineer that worked in the Premium engine and diesel group through 2008. I did time with the Duramax engines.

@@InLineDiesel6so you can’t imagine a world where a manufacturer would update a motor (L5P gen 2) and leave the ability to generate 20+ hp without changing anything with the composition of the motor for a mid cycle refresh? You also can’t imagine a scenario where an engineer said “we could get 20 more HP if we went with full mandrel bent charge tubes, but it will cost $500 more a truck” and the bean counters shoot it down? Cost, ease and pace of manufacturing, ease of assembly etc all get weighed against the benefits when decisions are made. If GM just had a team of Gale Banks’s making trucks as powerful and efficient as possible, everything else be damned, we would have very different trucks. Ask the US military! They send every new crate duramax from GM to Gale Banks for modification and tuning before it’s installed in the JLTV (HMMWV Replacement). Why would they do that if there wasn’t significant room for improvement?
