Glad I saw this video. Gonna revisit mine. I've got a 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 DRW and noticed fluid on the bottom of mine immediately after getting it home from a dealer I bought it from a couple hundred miles away. Took it to my local dealer who I've known and dealt with for nearly 30 years and the Service Manager had me get under the truck while it was on the lift and he told me they had seen this and GM was telling them it would stop after so many heat cycles and it was a seal that expands after doing so. I took it to be true but I'm near my first oil change now and will investigate when lifted shortly. Thank you!

I believe there is some truth to this. I bought a 2024 gasser a year ago and I quickly noticed a leak/drop at the inspection hole cover. I cleaned it up, drove it a week, checked again, looked like residual film, cleaned and have been good since. Now have 13k miles on truck.

I talked to a local service manager who is a gear head like me when they were replacing the EGR valve on my 2023 with 20k. I asked about the transmission issues and he told me lots of valve body issues. He also said that once the valve body is replaced, they haven't seen any comebacks. The shift solenoids in the valve bodies are not serviceable as a separate item, this could be part of the problem, but he also told me that he thinks there was a run of valve bodies with out of tolerance machining causing the issues. I have a buddy who custom builds Allision 1000 transmissions and he told me to check out Randy's Transmission in Salt Lake City, near you! He told me the GM version of the 10 spd has issues with on of the planetary units and that the GM version is bare aluminum where the Ford version is anodized aluminum, there is also mention of some gears in the gm version that are aluminum while the Ford version are steel. Since owning my 23 dually, only one time did I have an issue with the transmission and it was a WOT run on the interstate and it felt like the transmission got gear bound, it hasn't ever happened again though.

There is a very well-known issue with GM transmissions. The value body issue that is causing the transmission to go from 8th to 4th while you are going down the highway. The transmission will skip gears and could cause a complete failure. GM isn't even replacing this $1200 part. They are replacing the entire transmission because they can't make that part fast enough (I'm sure they make that overseas). I've talked with multiple GM service writers about it. I haven't heard of this leak issue yet.
@cham527517 күн бұрын
Are you saying that gm is replacing the transmission under the recall? Mine just went, and gm is trying to say this has nothing to do with the valve body recall but they put valve body as one of the parts to replace in it if they were to rebuild it, but they didnt recommend a rebuild, they said to put a whole new remanned one in.
@DavidBrown-jt7yi17 күн бұрын
@cham5275 Look online, and there are huge numbers of 10 speed transmissions failing, and GM even has a software upgrade/recall for the tranny issues. They are putting software in your vehicle where the transmission will limit your gear if the transmission is having issues and getting ready to fail. Go to a channel called The Riverstone Life. Go look at his big videos on his GM transmission issues. These are well known.

Love my 24. Pulls amazing, but kind of wish I still had my 16 LML. All I ever did was have to replace a glow plug on that truck in the 7 years I had it. My 24 has been at the dealer more than 10 times. 3 different software updates, while now there’s another one that’s due, been limp mode twice for emissions, and there for the tsb for poor fuel mileage (which fixed nothing). Dealt with dead battery 3 times now and had to have it towed while I keep being told everything is fine. Then my mirrors rattle and shake like they are loose, while the passenger mirror glass falls out everytime the door is closed, even when I hit a bump on the highway. Matter of fact, I’m leaving my house in 20 minutes to take it back in for another check engine light for emissions.

You obviously don’t know that the 10L1000 is NOT an Allison transmission, it is just endorsed by Allison and has their name on the truck. I had this issue on a 2024 2500 Duramax. (I bought it May 1st 2024) It had Zero mods and truck had 300 miles on it! I took it in to dealer multiple times and they claimed no codes and couldn't get it to do it. I left it for a week and their tech drove it daily but couldn't get it to happen. The truck hesitated hard like missed a shift at around 45-49 mph so 6-7th or 7th-8th gear. The dealer did a software update and re-flash. I took it home and happened again. Called dealer and reported my issue. I was told to keep an eye on it and if you get a light or can make it do it bring it in! Still does it seems to be getting less but definitely causing concern. Still zero mods 3380 miles and I traded it in as I had zero faith in it!

Nice video. Looking forward to a more in depth video on the idash. The tech is probably talking about a shift solenoid and if he is, and if they haven’t changed it, the only way to replace those is to change the valvebody. The 2020 Duramax I use to have had the valvebody replaced and they said it was because one of the shift solenoids were on the “low side” of normal. I assume they are talking about the output voltage. Anyways, my problem was check engine lights that always had the code “lost communication with the TCM”. I had no drivability problems. But I would get a check engine light 2 or 3 times a week. So they said a shift solenoid was on the low side of normal and figured that was my problem. It was not. They also changed the TCM. That wasn’t it. They finally changed the ECM and I think that solved the problem (it went 2 weeks and 4 days without a check engine light which was a record) but I traded the truck. So while I’d say people are having trouble my personal opinion is some of these techs are just throwing parts at it. And so unless I had an actual issue (consistent hard shift or consistent slipping), I would not take my truck back in because again, unless they have changed the design from 2020 if they say it’s a shift solenoid then they have to replace the valvebody to change that.

Overheated at the top. Took two years until I had issues. Eventually wouldn't shift beyond 4th without immediately dropping down back to fourth. But still was drivable up to 75 miles per hour without issue. Until I replaced it with a 6 Allison. So I wouldn't say it's weak. But definitely not mean for heavy heavy towing.

I am only looking at 3/4 and 1 tons. I find 2022's from Chevy with FRAME rust that I need to look at 8+ year old Fords and Rams to match. GM's bodies look great but the outdated frame coating they use is borderline worthless compared to Fords and Rams. I find all three are about the same when it comes to body rust with the 2017 and up Fords being the exception with their aluminum bodies. At least here in WI GM's are the rust buckets, and it's rust on the frame where it REALLY matters.

I'll take that bet, 2023 GMC 2500 AT4 BONE STOCK with 23,000 miles. Towing 12k lb RV trailer, had the transmission fail on flat ground leaving a stop light at about 45mph. Left me stranded, 300 miles from home. Set P0747 code, Onstar sent a tow truck to take to closet dealer. Dealer said they are swamped with transmission failures in these truck, same issue as mine, with 3 in front of me at that time.. It's a valve body issue and GMC is aware of it. It causes a mis-shift between I think 5th and 6th gear. It then de-fuels to limp mode. Sometimes the transmission is damaged when this happens, especially if you keep trying to drive it. The dealership finally was able to tear into mine and the fluids was clean, no apparent damage. GMC said to order a complete transmission and valve body. Said to install whichever one comes in first. There was 3 trucks with exact same problem that had been waiting on parts for over a month in front of me. Long story short I went and bought a Ford.... But not a replace for this truck, just a F150 to drive and handle my lighter duty work... A week later I got a surprise phone call, that a new "fixed version" valve body came in for my truck and they would have it installed and ready in a couple days. My truck is back on the road and hopefully doesn't ever have this issue again. I got lucky the other 3 trucks are still waiting on their parts, not sure why I was blessed by the GMC gods to get my replacement valve body so fast, my best guess was timing and how new my truck was?? No idea, but I'm thankful to get it back. They warned me it could be next year (3 months). I realize ALL trucks have issue and no matter which brand you go with, there's something. It's just disappointing for the amount we pay for these trucks, to be told you won't have your truck for months and no loaner or way to get my trailer home.... I was traveling, wasn't the dealer I bought from, so I'm sure that was a factor and it happened on a Sunday which complicated things even more. The worst feeling is making payments on your $90k truck that is broke down and no way to tow a trailer or haul anything. So much of a problem I bought the Ford.

I've been saving for years to get a new GMC 2500. Now really nervous with the recall for valve body issues and GMC's "fix" of a software upgrade to detect the problem before a failure. That's not a fix, that's a band-aid until it breaks again. Having serious doubts about buying now.

I traded in a 2014 Ram 1500 for a Chevy 2500. I had to pay $6000 bucks for a Jasper replacement tranny for the Ram. Before I bought i was asking every guy about their truck and issues they might have with them and at least one guy with a Ram 2500 also replaced a transmission. I was trying to wait on updated Ram 2500, but from what I was able to gather, not very many changes and keeping the old cab was a huge mistake. Looks like all companies have issues. I'll be keeping an eye on this issue and making a decision shortly about an extended powertrain warranty...

I’m not saying you’re wrong about Ford and GM collaborating on these transmissions but I’ve watched multiple KZbin videos of a teardown of each transmission side-by-side and the Ford was substantially stronger internally. The videos I’ve watched they compare each individual part inside the transmission as they pull them apart. Again this isn’t to say you’re wrong but wondering if these other videos I’ve been watching are total BS or not. I can tell you firsthand that my 2024 F450 shifts weigh smoother than my 2024 GMC.

I had this leak on mine, trans removed around 10k for the fix, the tsb you are reading in your video isn't for the leak you are saying that one has. The one you are reading is for a separate leak that occurs back near where the tcase mates to the trans. I have a buddy who is a tech and says lots of valve body issues as well, I don't think there is anything we can do to prevent the issue unfortunately, just gotta hope it doesn't leave you stranded.
@nickeckemoff763124 күн бұрын
2024 and leaks. Similar thing you mentioned about TSB. Really bummed out. Noticed at 15k miles, but think it been there’ since new. At 20k miles oil change took it dealer who says from bell housing seal and must remove transmission to fix (3+ day job). Really disappointed. I don’t think it has anything to do with towing…Ive been really gentle on the truck and it’s 100% stock. I did notice some odd rough shifting earlier on that made me wonder wtf was that and I was bad enough for me to wonder if something broke…all times happened accelerating moderately from a stop not towing.
