Hi Ruddy, Can you explain what to do when the floor isn't level? about 1" difference between the left side and right side of the opening. The most important thing is that the top should be leveled, correct?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
Wow! That's a huge difference. Yes it would look better if the tops were even. If the door on the low side can't be adjusted enough to match where the top is, I would put the L bracket at the bottom on a small block of wood under the bracket. If it can be anchored on the sides into wood that would be sufficient (unless the floor is wood, then I would use the screw down into the wood too). If it's sitting on concrete, you can sub out a piece of plastic so there's no problem with wood rot or put a small piece of tar paper between the concrete and the wood. I hope that makes sense.

Thank you for this video…very helpful. My only question is ideally do I purchase doors the exact width of the open space to the closet or should i aim for doors an inch shorter?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel29 күн бұрын
HI, you would purchase doors the exact width of your space... For example if your space is 48" you would purchase (2) 24" doors. The actual measurement of a 24" door is 23 3/4". Between both doors you'll have 1/2" of space. Now if you have an irregular size opening; for example if your opening is only 47", you'll have to rip a little off both sides of each door to make it fit. I've had to do that several times in the past to make it work... Hope that helps.

My closet opening is 80" H x 84" W. What size bifold would I need to get in order for this to work? I can't seem to find 42"W doors to get two.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
HI, unfortunately that's an odd size. The doors you can readily get are usually like 18, 24, 30, 36 doors. OF course none of those combinations will work with an 84 opening. You can either close up the opening to 72 so that you can use 36" doors, or I believe if you google custom size bi-fold doors there are companies that'll make the doors any size you need. They'll probably be on the expensive side, but I think you can get them if you don't know how to do drywall and all the stuff needed to shrink the opening. I hope that helps.

It's hard to explain but you will have to stop the baseboard short once it goes around the corner and make sure to leave enough room to clear the door. At the end of the baseboard, I'll usually cut a little 22.5 degree bevel for aesthetics..

I purchased a condo with a two panel bi-fold door for master bathroom. For some reason it isn't balanced and won't close all the way. It closes about 3/4 the way. Any suggestions?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
Is the door rubbing at the top when it reaches a point where it won't close? Or rubbing at the bottom? You'll have to look around the door to see why it won't close all the way. If it's rubbing at the top, you'll have to loosen the pivot point at the top corner and adjust it out just a little or the opposite if it's rubbing at the bottom. Also check the wall to the left or right of the door depending which side it's on and make sure the door isn't rubbing on the wall. This will keep it from closing too. If it's rubbing there you can lift the door to bring the pivot out a little at the bottom and loosen the screw at the top and adjust the top to be even with the bottom. Then tighten the screw back. There's not much else that would keep it from closing.

HI, a 24" bifold is actually about 23 1/2 maybe 23 5/8... you can make the finished opening 48 - 48 1/2 and it'll be fine... I wouldn't go any bigger than that. I just did a video using two 36" doors and my finished opening was exactly 72" (finished opening, not rough)

Our challenge is every closet is an odd width. Can louvres be hung outside the closet when everything standard is too narrow or too wide?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel8 ай бұрын
Do you mean the whole doors outside the closet? There would be nothing to attach the top rail to... How much of a difference is the door opening to the door? If that's what you were thinking they do make a barn door rail kit that you could use to side the door back and forth on the outside wouldn't look bad. I wouldn't use bifold doors for that though, I'd use a solid door.
@melissamorse97288 ай бұрын
@@TheHomeImprovementChannel thanks! Yes I was considering barn door slide hardware. But I can’t find a video that gives confidence to take that approach. 28” doors would work in the 57”/58” widths with extra wood on the sides but 28s don’t come with panels on the bottom…which I’d hoped for.

@TheHomeImprovementChannel2 жыл бұрын
Yes I had that on this particular door opening actually. This opening originally went from floor to ceiling. I think the original doors were 92 or something like that. They do make new doors that are that tall, but if you want to use a regular 80" door, you'll have to bring the height of the ceiling down so that it fits the new size door.. that means a 2x4 frame, drywall, finishing, the works... Most of the time on concrete the bottom screws are just left out. Especially if you can get a good bite into wood on the sides. If you feel you really need a screw on the bottom, you'll need a hammer drill and some TAPCON screws to anchor it down.. You might try a little longer screws on the sides if you have to go through drywall first.

@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
If you're exactly at 70 inches and no less, you can probably rip 1/2 inch off each door on both sides of both doors. You'll have to take off the hinges and rip that too and put them back... 4 x 1/2" is the 2 inches you need using the 2/ 36" doors. I would recommend a table saw although you can do it with a hand circular saw if your clamp a board on the door for stability to make a straight line. I hope that makes sense.

@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
HI Ben... No i'm not afraid of inhibiting the floor. The floor is actually stapled with several staples per piece, so a couple of screws wouldn't do much. I usually don't attach the bottom screw. The ones on the sides are more than enough. Not to say you can't use the bottom screw. There's no reason why not. However, if you're on a laminate or floating floor, I actually don't recommend using the bottom screw. There's no need for trim in this case since the drywall is finished around the inside of the opening all the way around. Sometimes these closet doors can be lined with 1x6 that's ripped to 4 1/2 (Using 2x4's and 1/2" drywall) and then door casing around the outside perimeter. But if there's already drywall there its not necessary, or will it fit since you'll be closing the opening by 1 1/2". I hope that helps..

I picked up some used doors that had some of the hardware installed, but the wheel for the top were I'm guessing broken off. I bought some new harware from the store, but theyre much smaller than the old hardware so they just sit loose. Not quite sure how to actually install these dang things

I did a video on this not to long ago. There's a bracket you can get that will sit over the hole and make it so it's smaller again. See if this will help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3TNg56BaN56q5I

HI, it can probably be done as long as both sides are equal, but I've never tried to do that before. You would probably be able to add another hinge section would probably be the easiest.

The hole sounds like it's wallowed out. So they make a repair bracket for this. If you want to go this route, you might also have to replace the pivot pin if it's damaged too. Here's the title of it if you have amazon access. "Prime-Line N 7192 Bi-Fold Door Repair Bracket for 1-3/8 inch Door "

@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
What size are you looking for? Yes a door for an 80+ inch opening is going to be around 79 to give room for the tracks and the pins/ etc.

I’m a woman in my 50s, and I recently needed to replace some parts on our bi-fold doors. After a bit of research, I discovered that I could get the replacement pieces at Home Depot. However, I still had to figure out how to install them. I watched a few KZbin videos, but they weren't very clear. Then I found your video. You made the process so easy and straightforward! After struggling with other videos, I was able to fix the doors in just 20 minutes, thanks to you. I really appreciate it!

That was great, thank you, Rudy! I need to make two lightwood panel doors for my RV. I'm sick of the one hollow core door that never hangs straight always blocking the stove and too bulky. The bifold will solve the problem. I want to make one door with two folding panels which fold to left side. Ideal for an RV. Not a bad concept for cabinets either. You explained this very well!

Thank you so much! Good luck with your project.... Is there any way to make a pocket door for the RV? Would take up even less room.

@TheHomeImprovementChannel2 жыл бұрын
HI, without being able to see them, I can't tell whats holding them on there. Did you loosen the screw at the top that holds it to the track? You should take them loose with the doors in the closed position once you loosen the screw. You can usually get replacement parts at stores like Home Depot, Lowe's etc, or Amazon will most likely have them too.

My closet is about 100inch wide. I am not sure if they even produce closet door with this length?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel2 жыл бұрын
HI, they do make a 48" door. You can add two of them to get 96. You can also add 1x6 ripped to the proper width around the inside frame of the closet. If you have enough height available around the top too... If that still not small enough add some thin plywood under the 1x6 to shrink the opening even more. Then go around the opening with casing to hide the gaps. Hope that helps.. 😀

HI! I would not install that bracket into the baseboard. However if someone did that and wanted to cut them afterwards, they make a great tool with an oscillating blade that works great for stuff like that.

Awesome video...I have a problem installing my doors. My opening is 80 inches tall can I shave the door down a bit on both ends or is that not recommended. I can't find a door that fits 77inch is to small and 79 seems too tight. Thanks a bunch
@TheHomeImprovementChannel2 жыл бұрын
HI. Shaving will take 10 years! You can rip the doors with a saw. Just be careful how much you cut off. I am not entirely sure how thick the wood is around the perimeter of the door is. I'd guess 3/4" or so. If you cut beyond the blocks of wood around the door, you will find in most cases the door is hollow after that. So yes you can definitely cut a bit off of there. Depends how much you need. IF you need an inch, I recommend cutting a 1/2" from the top and bottom.

I have a rent house that we’re fixing up and we’re trying to figure out why the by folding doors come out of the track, so hopefully your video will help us figure that out. Thank you for posting it.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
Sometimes the doors will "hop" along the track when you open and close them. The doors could be in a bind or something to cause that. You'll have to look them over to see if you see anything like that going on. You can usually adjust the door by the moving the pin mount that is in the upper left or right corner depending which door you're working on. Let me know if you have a specific question.

So the roller we had needed to be replaced so I purchased two (thankfully there were two in the pack). I took out the existing one and went to hammer in the new one. Did it very gently but somehow the spring I guess got pushed down too hard so the plastic with the spring got stuck in there but the pin with the roller popped right out. Tried taking the plastic out and it completely broke. So basically that hole is completely useless and I'm going to have to drill another hole into the top of the door to use the other roller I have. I have my hole but now I'm worried about hammering it in again. Any advice?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel2 жыл бұрын
Those springs usually don't break if you are hammering gently every time. I've never had any trouble at all. What if you clipped a pair of vice grips very very loosely below the roller so that you don't bite into the roller axle and mar it up. You can tap on the vise grips to drive the assy into the hole...

Very clear and easy to understand I followed every step and still could not get my double bifold doors to fit securely the pins that came with my door for the top had no spring or wheel so I think that was the problem how can I get proper pins for the top?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
HI Kurt, yes the top pins must be springy. The bottom pin is a thread in or out pin and will support the doors. You can buy those pins from Amazon, or your local hardware store..

Video is very detailed and clear. What about if you have tile (ceramic) floors? I'm building a closet from scratch I hope everything goes well..
@TheHomeImprovementChannel2 жыл бұрын
Hi.. With tile, I usually skip the bottom screw and just use the two that go in the side... U can use a hammer drill, but you'll run the risk of cracking a tile.. It's not worth it! As long as those side screws have wood to bite into, you should be fine.

Is it ok to nail the jamb bracket into my laminate floor using those screws provided in the door packet? There's concrete underneath..
@TheHomeImprovementChannel2 жыл бұрын
Hello. Chances are the laminate floor isn't very thick to be able to support a screw for the door. Also, the screws would have to be pretty short to not hit with the concrete. A lot of the time when there's a concrete floor I just use the two screws on the side that go to the jam, but if you need a 3rd screw to go straight down, your best bet is to use a plastic anchor down in the concrete. IF your opening is to tall, you can also use a small of wood under the metal bracket to raise the door up a little.
