Installing two 48 inch culvert pipes in a creek. Using Yanmar excavator, Kubota tractor, and Ford F750 dump truck. By using two pipes we minimize cost and material to build a bridge across the creek.

True story
@Hecket
@Hecket 4 жыл бұрын
Water will continue to undermine the pipes, you placed them too high. Always dig down about a foot into the river before placing the culvert. Over time a small portion of the bottom of the culvert pipe will fill with sediment to create a new river bed inside the pipe as a result of placing the culvert deeper. This will not clog the pipe. It will also help in retaining the culvert pipe. When filling, the proper way is to use small rocks on the sides of the pipe as they will help drain soil water down and away from the culvert. Adding a bit of the rocks to the top of the soil dressing will help in compaction and able to carry the weight of larger vehicles. Always have about 2 foot of soil on top of the culvert to ensure during very high water levels there is enough downward pressure to not dislodge the pipe. Most of the decisions taken are ways of cutting costs, but i would never just place culvert pipes on top of a moving body of water, always cut down at least a foot as mentioned earlier.

I won't mention any names but if you watch the YT's for your 'learning or entertainment' instead of some bickering alphabet TV show, a lot of people tend to like longer than a 30+ minute video. Seems like no one wants to hear a story from beginning to end anymore, SMH. ( The procrastinator types) daaaaangson .. I know he didn't just go there. 👀🤔

I appreciate the explanation on how to do things such as picking up the trees and moving it in position to track to where ever you are gonna dump it. Those sorts of explanations are very helpful for people that don't have much experience (in dirt work). Also I appreciate you putting all of one job on the same video even though it is longer that way.

You are a smooth operator. I don’t have enough experience to eyeball a culvert install like this. Measuring and marking the rough area to excavate and keeping track of depth and slope along the way would give me more confidence on the outcome of the job.

I too like to see a job through from beginning to end in one sitting. I passed up a movie on Netflix to watch your video and I was thoroughly entertained with your dialogue, I need the full details. I am a homeowner in the Tehachapi mountains that are located in California. I recently bought a house (April 2021) that was built in 2006 and most likely has not had any excavation up keep since it was built. I'm mostly likely in over my head for the excavation I need to do but your videos give me enough tips that I'm willing and looking forward to doing some digging. Good stuff, thanks!

Well done again! I always get concerned about some of these drainage pathways. I was assisting with a small drainage path/creek that was similar to this, but very winding. We had to build up the embankment using gabion baskets filled with large rap, but it wasn't designed/installed properly and the gabions were not pinned...we had huge Texas rain storm and the gabions were all washed out. Back to square one...the moral, never underestimate the power of water. lol....great vid as usual dude!

Watching for the first time two years later, this is intended for your benefit. Also your customer's long term satisfaction. Hecket made some good points. Letsdig 18 spends the time and money to do overflow pipe installations right. A point of mine is flood (deep) water cause flow and pressure thru voids. Riprap is like a sieve. A lot of the pressure and flow passes around the rocks, and erodes the voids, when the water deepens. The problem I see is flood waters will enlarge the voids you left around the lower outside of the pipes. Your dinky plugs you first placed at the outlets on the pipe's outsides, that stopped the initial trickle of water, will get flushed away by the erosion pressure that flood waters will create. I predict that each significant deep flow of water will further enlarge the three void at the bottom of the outsides of the culverts. The riprap may hide this erosion for a long time. Criticism not intended.
