They act as a check valve allowing fluid to flow in one direction and blocking it in another. The check balls close off the holes in the plate. Fluid can come through the hole and push the ball off its seat (the hole). but fluid following in a reverse direction will push the ball onto the seat (hole) and block fluid flow. Except when they are worn as shown in the video allowing fluid to seep through the worn out seat (hole).

we use something called Transmission Assembly Goo. Not sure who makes it but I'm sure you can get something similar from a trans parts supplier or the internet. Unlike most greases, it melts at really low temps and disolves with the trans fluid. Vasaline behaves in a similar fashion.

If you've lost one, I'd try a transmission shop. They get new ones in the kit and may have some old ones they will give you. If you have an old one take it with you so they can make sure its the same.

Isn't there a possibility of that grease, or Vasoline -- whatever you use -- getting clogged in the valve body channels and creating a flow problem?
@ttcautotech6 жыл бұрын
This is a little late but I thought I'd add it for anyone wanting to know in the future. The Vaseline or Assembly grease will not clog anything because its a very low temp grease. Vaseline barely stays solid below 100 degrees. The assembly grease has a low melting point and is designed to mix with the transmission fluid.
