I've said it before, on many of the Lesson Videos fro Transmission Bench, but here it is again ! This guy is a GREAT INSTRUCTOR !! SECOND TO NONE, in my opinion! Yes some areas of transmission are more difficult that for this Instructor shows, but he's done this a long time! Use his series on 4L60E, you won't be sorry. Grind a Flat spot on your Snap Ring Pliers, on there outside, it help snap ring from popping off pliers !

I just rebuilt my 2007 Chevrolet 4L60E following Jimmy's tutorials and it works again! Fantastic video series and presentation. Never thought I'd attempt this procedure but he made it easy as well as ordering the parts I needed. Highly recommended, thanks Jimmy!

Very thorough (but a little on the slow side). One thing about using a magnet to remove the check balls though. The steel balls become magnetized and will attract metal particles in the oil decreasing their efficiency in closing off the oil passage. Worked on Honda cars for over 15 years during the 80's and 90's. I overhauled well over 200 transmissions and found a few trans (that were worked on by others) with magnetized balls and metal crud stuck to them. Also, Honda auto trans instructors stressed the importance of not using a magnet in removing check balls. I kept a supply of 316 stainless balls to replace the steel ones and never had a problem.

He’s right. I read 3 books, watched every video on KZbin and even read transmission forums. You have watch the people on them forums. A lot of them are just repeating bs someone else told them. I also bought a bad transmission and took it apart several times. I even went to pull apart and took a bad transmission apart there. I studied more than 2 years before I rebuilt my unit. The tranny did work on the first try.

Is there any more check balls besides the 7 and the one on the bottom the plate? I have an 4l60-E and there is one more check ball at another location and some kind of O-ring retainer is holding it in place in the Valve Body, looks like does not come out. that would be the number 9 check ball. Is this normal on my transmission? This is the tag on the case of my tansmission 3SDD. it is for a 2003 Chevrolet trail blazer LT. please help

Question...1997 Silverado Z71 5.7L 4L60E... ONLY when trans is warmed up (driving for 20-30 minutes at around 55mph) trans has real hard shift from 1st to 2nd and a somewhat hard shift from 2nd to 3rd, can turn engine off wait 30secs and start engine and trans shifts normally again. 3-4 is good and shifting through PRND321 is good. This only happened after towing a trailer down the highway while in D (forgot to shift into 3 while towing) was told torque converter was toasted.

I rebuilt mine with help of your vids! I get a p0742 if I drive without warming up. When hot, runs fine... Wondering if it might be partially clogged cooling coils in radiator because previous owner had the trans replaced but I am suspecting not radiator ... So was going to add external cooler to see if that solves. Does this make sense to anyone?
