Very smart. Probably over and above what the old boys used to do. You do yours with a cover flashing. I have seen a lot done with the upstand aligned with a brick joint. Folded back on the 90 and just slotted in. Saving all the extra material and process. It can't come forward once fixed at the front. Just wondered what the reason is for doing all the extra work. That project looks like a brand new house built in the style of the house I was born in. 18th century Georgian. Would love to see what the inside looks like. Bit more modern I would expect.
@slbleadworks

Thank you. The reason I have used a separate cover flashing is because the projection exceeds more than 200mm. As this is the case the back of the lead is turned up against the wall and a separate cover flashing has to be used. Yes the house is amazing I think it’s about 18 million. I love working on places like this.

Nice video. Although i sometimes do this kind of work, i find it fascinating to see how others might do it. Seem to be on a bit of a binge here at the moment : ) One question though, these are the BLM 25mm annular shank copper nails, with biggish heads? Never even considered they'd fit tightly into red plugs!! So there ya are, always picking up good tips etc! : ))
@iancaley2347

Or clout nail heads should i say : ) Never seen that tool for turning the lead into and under the copper....no doubt a look online will cure that one : )

Yes it’s nice to see how other people do things. I picked something up from another lead worker a few weeks back. Thank you for watching my vids I really appreciate it. Yes the nails fit into the red plugs very nicely. I just use a piece off copper to act as a washer. And that tool is seaming pliers. They definitely come in handy.

@@slbleadworks Interesting watches! It's hard not to ask too many things on one video, lol. That long chase wedge for instance, i only have the short ones....i haven't bought any new lead tools for years, as the old ones last a good long time. Snips maybe, but that's about it : ) I guess not constantly doing leadwork, it's not really worth the extra expense. Although a hell of a lot easier! Anyway, no problem, i enjoy watching how you do things. And, it's always pretty quiet where you tend to be working....must be bliss! : ))

Seem to find myself binging again : ) Stuart, say this was a long shop front canopy, slight fall, and only about a foot wide with a 3 to 4 inch upstand. Would you always welt, or because of only being a foot wide and with a fall, would you ever consider just lapping instead of welting?
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks 7 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching I really appreciate it. I think I’d still welt even if it had a decent fall.

Thank Stuart. Wished you showed the returns too. Have to ask do you need to fix the lead to the wall and does it not impede the movement.
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks Жыл бұрын
Yes I had to fix the lead to the wall as it’s not end to end welts. These will not impede the movement and the lead is massively undersized

How things change a bit from the 80s, we used a zinc strip underneath the dressed seam so that held and fixed the lead to the roof and not the copper strip your using at the front, you've done a beautiful job here but my only issue his the seam lap, not sure if that's a 100% watertight as where a wood roll would be better, most of my lead work was sheet work in standing seams vertical work , dorma and cheeks, love your work but that's my issue his with the folded seam. Like to hear other comments with that thou
@slbleadworks
@slbleadworks Жыл бұрын
Yes it always seems to be copper these days. That or stainless steel. I’m not a fan of this as it’s not as easy as copper to work with. I do hear you that a roll is indeed better. But In this situation a welt is sufficient as it’s not taking a massive amount of water and the welt won’t get overwhelmed. It’s just the same as a cornice where welts are also sufficient.
