How come in the intro your riding a 2stroke yet the final outro you're talking about a difference in the 4 strokes? Ya lost me there...
@SourceADV4 жыл бұрын
The 4 strokes get to a certain rpm then “flame out” or just stall in an aggressive, jerky way, and that rpm is much much higher than this bike. That is because of the high compression and half the number of power strokes. This bike might literally be chugging along at 400-800 rpm here, and I feel like the 500exc is out at around 1200-1500. That make sense?

You don’t need an engine lockup tool. Put it in gear and wedge a rag between the chain and the rear sprocket. It’ll save you a few bucks.

You can put a bunch of rope in the cylinder to "lock" the motor at tdc (just leave a tail hanging out to pull the rope out). Or, you can jam the rear brake lever down and do what you gotta do. I prefer that so I'm not forcing the piston in to anything.

It’s on the ignition side of the engine, the rekluse is on the other side. I didn’t see a need for a rekluse, these bikes are so hard to stall if you get good at the clutch. I didn’t notice any change in vibration cheers

I’m not sure exactly, if you put in your bike on rocky mountain ATV mc it will show the right puller for your bike. You can use a sprocket jammer by motion pro or just put it in gear and have a buddy hold the rear brake really hard too

@SourceADV3 жыл бұрын
Oh, I don’t think that style of lockup tool will work for a 4 stroke because of how deep the spark plug is in the head. Just get the bike to TDC, put it in first gear, jam a rag in the rear sprocket and lock it up that way. You can have a buddy step on the rear brake at the same time too. Hope that helps!

Did adding the heavier flywheel make any difference on motor vibration? I race a 2020 250x and usually by the end of an hr and a half race, my hands are completely numb from engine vibes. Even after running a mako bar clamps and evo bars. Just curious if the flywheel help at all
@SourceADV3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, that’s a good question, I didn’t notice any difference but I wasn’t really looking for it. I never really though of the bike being a viby bike, so maybe it did? I only had about 5 hours on it when I put the flywheel on it, so maybe I just always thought it was a smoother bike. Sorry man, but it sounds like it might be worth a shot!

There's some good options with handlebars that allow for flex that could help you rodney

He’s got the Mako360 clamp and Pro Taper evo bars, which is one of the best combos for vibration reduction and flex out there. Rodney, try running ODI rogue grips in the light gray soft compound, that can help a lot too

Those are the Cycra Ultra Pro Bends direct from Yamaha's GYTR catalogue, hence the blue matched/branded shields. These came with the bike. I run the Molecule full wrap plastic guards now on all my race bikes, but I also don't hit trees or go down as much as I did back then LOL!

@stevenmcilwrath53714 жыл бұрын
@@SourceADV the piston stopper tool clearly works but a lot of local engine guys think it is very risky...
@SourceADV4 жыл бұрын
I could kinda see that for the removal, it is easier to crack the tapered fit with the impact without putting stress on the rod bearings. At the end of the day though I can’t imagine that 50 LBFt of tension to pop that thing off even comes close the stresses the engine feels landing from being airborne and the engine hitting the rev limiter @ 12K. You could always use a big wrench in the flywheel puller tool and try to take most of the stress on the wrench with the piston stopper as “support” or you might not need it at all

Do you feel like the GYTR was sufficient enough? Trying to decide between that and a dramatic Steahly 13oz.
@SourceADV4 жыл бұрын
I think for this bike it is the right size. At the end of the day, it feels like the X is meant to be more of a flowy single track bike, it’s first gear is high compared to a KTM XCW even if you re gear. Im running 13/49 compared to the stock 14/50, seems to be enough for the occasional really technical rocky climbs while still keeping 5th usable in faster sections. I guess too at the end of the day depends on type of riding. For mountian single track here in CO where I’m mostly in 2nd, this seems to be the perfect setup.
