@@CustomCreations3 I'm about to add the u-channel. I got some 2x1 - 1/8 thick. It seems a bit heavy. Did you have any issues with the additional weight (U-channel and chain link)?

@@Rodzilla-du3pp is the u channel steel or aluminum? I would recommend it be aluminum but even if steel I wouldn’t expect the weight to be a problem. If had the torch hit a 4’ x 4’ sheet of 11 gage steel and push it. I wouldn’t want that happen often but the stepper motors and lead screws certainly had the torque to do it.

Excellent! Haven't really had time to start production yet with my table but really happy with the cut quality on the parts i've done so far. Starting to build up a library of cut files and will start producing samples so customers can see what they would get if they purchased. Still trying to figure out how to charge...not enough experience to make a video on that one!!! :)

@@Issac_G there should be quantity 2 of the larger chain cause I did have to put two together the get the length along the x-axis. The y-axis was short enough to only need one chain.

@D & N Custom Creations First off I would like to say thanks for taking the time to post these videos (please keep the tips and updates coming). I was wondering if there is room in your current drag chains to fit the torch cable? Do yo see any reason you couldn't include the plasma cutter cable in the drag chain (assuming it's not too tight)?

Thx Sean for the kind comments. I do have a number of ideas for future videos and need to get them recorded ASAP. There is room in the chain for the torch cable but the stiffness of the cable would require the chain loop to be much larger. I’m not sure if the machine torch cable is stiffer than a hand torch but my machine torch cable would need about a 24” diameter loop if I had to guess. So I don’t even try to include the torch cable in the chain. I’d like to see someone do it and share their results...would be a great improvement if successful.

@@CustomCreations3 I was worried about the cable thickness and figured that was why no one has done it. I see the new crossfire XR is running the plasma cable in it's chains as do many other more expensive plasma cutters. I wonder what the trick to there set up is? I hope some one pulls it off and share their knowledge on the forum : )

Thx for the kind words. Wire track guide is probably a better description! Since I stole the idea from the guys on the Langmuir forum and they called them drag chains I followed their lead! 🤓. I Googled drag chains and sure enough they showed up so apparently the term drag chain is ok!

Thx for the kind words Steven. The blue stuff is called SterlingCool-PlasmaCut and was purchased from Cutting Fluids Direct (www.cuttingfluidsdirect.com). I’ve been happy with it. Have had steel sitting for days after plasma cut and no rust, so not only does it reduce fumes but it must have some water soluble rust preventative that keeps the slats from corrosion

Great updates! Is the wider drag chain a 15mm x 30mm (as indicated in your Amazon link) or is it 15mm x 40mm (as I thought I saw in the actual video images? The inside width of that 2" x 1/8" wall aluminum track would be 1.75" (44.45mm) and it looks like your drag chains fit really nicely... which implies the 40mm width might be what you used. Can you confirm which is correct? Thanks!

Hey Greg, The chain in the “x” direction (one on top) is 18mm x 25mm as very few wires go through it. The “y” direction chain is 15mm x 30mm. You’re correct that 40mm would fit but when I sort of measured the wire bundle the 30mm was sufficient so that what I used.

Very nice install. I am wondering why you drilled into the top of a bolt to mount the spacer? Seems like an unnecessary complication. Why not make the spacer slightly taller and mount it to the Y axis beam? A hole sized for a 1/4-20 hole won’t compromise the beam’s integrity. Wouldn’t need a lathe. Just curious.

Your solution is a good one. My biggest reason for not doing what you suggested was finding a way to mount the spacer to the beam. I didn’t feel the beam wall thickness was sufficient to provide a good amount of tapped threads which meant I would have to drill a hole through both tube walls and use a nut on the back side. My ability to do that by hand without it being cockeyed is suspect and I’m too lazy to disassemble and take to my drill press! 🤓. I guess you have demonstrated how having a lathe can exacerbate the propensity of laziness…especially as I get older! 😈

BTW- I drilled and threaded into the top of the beam and with the spacers to add angular strength, the rail is very securely attached. I have no concern at all for strength and it looks really good. As you gained ideas for others, I gained from you. I appreciate your work.Thanks!

Cool video but why not show the whole thing at the beginning of the video to have an idea what you are talking about. I had to fast forward in the video to try to understand and then go back. Also I was hoping in a demo of the apparatus, how the drag chain works while moving the machine

I have a crossfire pro but so far i do not really see the need for this drag chain, once I see a system operating with one, maybe I'll run to install it 👍⚡😂

Could you of used a smaller drag chain on both the X and the Y? Or did you use what you had laying around?

The x chain (18mm x 25mm) could have been smaller as there are only a couple wires running through it. The y chain (15mm x 30mm) is pretty full so I wouldn’t go much smaller

Hi James, you are correct that the tracks for the x direction we’re spliced. Real easy as every joint can be unsnapped with screwdriver. Lots of videos on KZbin showing how
