@ 8:09, "You want to twist the wires to make sure they're not frayed." You should have told folks to twist those wires CLOCKWISE. If you don't the twists will come undone when you connect them to the power source with the wire nuts, creating a poor connection. All the electrical tape in the world can't fix this. No, I'm not an electrician. I'm just an old bag that has learned to do a few things for myself. I do have almost 30 years experience as an electronic technician and I can tell you that the devil is in the details. You also forgot to add the really fun part. Before you use up the last of your electrical tape, you go down to the basement and cut the breaker on. Go back up stairs and cut on all of stove eyes,etc, and make sure everything works. Trek back down stairs, cut the breaker off. Huff & puff back up stairs and finish the job. Holding tightly to the stair rail, slowly descend the stairs one more time to cut the breaker back on. Now, sit on the bottom stair until the staircase no longer resembles Mt. Everest. Once your determination has returned and you have once more reached the summit, head for the nearest recliner. You can add finishing touches and put tools up later. Never let an incomplete job get in the way of a good nap. Now wasn't that fun? You can console yourself with the fact that there were no ladders involved.

I thought for sure I had to be missing something. I expected it to be somewhat like a sink with something holding it in place.
@machias885 жыл бұрын
Just make sure the hole isn't oversized, or the weight of the cooktop will crack if it's supported only by the glass. If the hole is oversized then you need install something called a hudee ring. My Frigidaire cooktop recommended a Granite Countertop Installation Kit (903061-9010) that is 6 brackets and a tube of RTV silicone sealant. What's interesting is that the brackets don't actually support the cooktop but just help center it, and nowhere in the installation instructions does it mention using sealant.

Some pointers. First always test appliance to make sure you turned off correct breaker. You did not address that the breaker should have been two pole double throw. You dont know what kind of rigged situation your dealing with. As already mentioned a voltage sensor is needed for safety. Inductions are good but not as reliable as direct probe. Also note you can get shocked on a neutral depending on prior loads on circuit.An improvement to this situation would be a disconnect or cord plug arrangement. Then you can disconnect with confidence.

@@Idahopainter you cut to the step of lifting it and you place your hand on the stove and it shifts, did you have to separate the stove from the counter before lifting it out? Can I connect the wires at the cooktop, rather than at the box? With my oven under the cooktop, there's very little room to operate, and it would be so much easier.
@nickyjames14302 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't. The new cooktop comes with a new armored flex cable already connected correctly to the terminals inside the cooktop. You still have to connect this flex cable to the incoming power in the wall box. If your oven is blocking access to the wall box it may be easier to pull the oven partly or completely out of the way to get some room to work. You might be able to work through the countertop opening to connect your wires. By the way, never trust that the breaker killed the power. Always verify all wires are dead with a voltmeter or a non contact voltage tester-I use both and test them on a live circuit first. Better safe than sorry!

Yeah, I came looking for the same thing. it's only mentioned that you have to install brackets when you have to install brackets, but they don't install it... I don't assume that they skip this part because they think that cooktop's flange will HOPEFULLY hold it in place and will HOPEFULLY be strong enough to support the weight of up to 5 full pots, while securing cooktop involves properly positioning and attaching metal parts to stone countertop which is the most difficult (and risky) part of this job. How could I?
