I upgraded my budget harley benton budget les paul with the emg zakk wild set, i had some issues with the wiring from the pickup switch, which was diffrent from the emg pickups and the hb ones. It's not so easy as you see on the emg youtube channel, but you dont have to solder as you have to with other pu brands. It took me almost 3 hours, but it was worth because the tone completely changed. Very good choice

Yeah, I struggled with the wiring from the PU switch as well hahah. It took me less than 3 hours, but yeah, the upgrade is totally worth it!

Hello there! Been an EMG user since 1985. Yeah, I am that old. I mainly use the 85 in the bridge in all my guitars and one has the 89R in the bridge as I wanted the single coil away from the bridge a bit. Just prefer the 85 and 89 series as they are Alnico and a bit more ballsy! Dan - Hydra Vein

I think your choice of EMG's you cannot go wrong. I prefer the EMG 89r for the neck pickup, as it is a bit warmer and a tad more vintage. 😉 What do you think?

I have an EMG 89R with coil tapping in my Schecter. I don't use the split function a lot though, since the difference in output is so high. But indeed, it's a great pickup. I also love the Het Set pickups. Those are even hotter than the 81/60 or 81/85 combo
